The atmosphere is pretty good I would say, as soon as you walk in it is very homey. You see cute posters on the walls, with funny sayings. However, when it comes down to food it’s a definite no go. Presentation was great, everything looked really good. We got chicken with gravy on the side, mac and cheese, black eyed peas. Black eye peas were heavy on the salt, while the mac and cheese could have used some. The chicken was bland, no seasoning on the chicken or the breading. We got the charred okra, and that was EXTRA heavy with salt. We had to scrape off the sauce just to eat it. We also catfish, collard greens, and yams. Yams were canned, collard greens were excessive with the pepper. Like A LOT of pepper. Catfish was not catfish, more like tilapia. Was very soft. I agree with someone who reviewed and said “It’s good for people who don’t cook.” Only thing we really liked was the fried devil eggs. In the end, the price was $100+. 4/10, most likely would not come again.
I really wanted to love Fixins but the food was mediocre at best. First, the ambiance and the inside is very nice. The staff was nice and we had a very good server but none of this could compensate for the lack of flavor in the food. The okra tasted like it had too much vinegar. The collard greens were inedible and everyone at our table sent them back to the kitchen. The chicken was bland and could have used some seasoning. The grits were really good, they were creamy and perfectly seasoned. Sadly the best part of the meal was my sweet tea and my waffle. Everything else left much to be desired. It’s okay to go here if you want something that looks pretty, but not if you want something that tastes delicious.

The atmosphere was amazing. I loved the music, staff members, and food. The chicken was absolutely amazing. Extremely crispy, crunchy, and juicy. The fries were crispy as well. What I didn’t like was the mac and cheese. It tasted a bit wonky. Maybe it was too salty. Overall it was a great restaurant.

Being from the South, I didn’t expect a southern restaurant in LA to live up to the expectations. I was wrong.
A friend recommended this place to us for the best fried chicken and waffles he’s had.
We found parking super easily at the LA Live Parking garage right next to the restaurant.
The restaurant was not busy and had plenty of seating. We were quickly seated outside. The one issue we had was that the music playing outside was way to loud. Like it was well above what it should be at a restaurant.
We ordered some food. Obviously had to get fried chicken and waffles. The waffle was incredible. Such an amazing and soft waffle that came with a cream cheese frosting butter. This was the best butter I’ve ever had to put on anything. It was that good.
The chicken was so crispy. You could tell it was extremely fresh, and this was easily the crispiest fried chicken I’ve ever had. It puts most places in the South to shame with how good it is!
We also got some chicken with sides of candies yams, macaroni, and rolls. Everything was so delicious in their own ways!
I 100% recommend this spot if you are in downtown LA and looking for some of the best southern-style food around.

Great "upbeat" atmosphere with lots of great food added in! Brought back memories of the good ole days! And make sure you try the red beans n' rice, Mac n' cheese, and by all means the black eyed peas! All of which are ???? and the fried chicken is cooked to perfection!

This place has been very popular since it first opened. I was there on the preopening & their pork chops are excellent.
Today I just got the soul Caesar salad(excellent taste and fresh) with no croutons & their fried chicken(dark meat leg & thigh), okra & collard greens side which I thought were delicious.
Parking is expensive on site or walk a block away to get cheaper parking. I highly recommend stopping by & overall excellent spot at LA live for fried chicken!

Fixins Soul Kitchen has varied menu with several southern inspired items from greens, yams, fried okra, oxtail, fried chicken, and gumbo.
Since this spot is a soul food eatery I stuck with traditional dishes. All items were well prepared, joyous, and tasty, except the fried chicken.
I would recommend this spot. The atmosphere is phenomenal with great music and the staff was great as well.

It’s a hard no on coming back. Our food was either super salty or extra bland. Greens had pepper and nothing else. The reviews that said the food was great I’m guessing they can’t cook or was raised on strictly fast spaghetti and box Mac cheese. I hate to say it but the most jank hole in the wall have the tastiest soul food. This. Ain’t. It. The service was really good. Look I’m trying to be somewhat positive about this hippie soul food spot. Gimme my ten spot back on the parking. I could have given that to the dude that wash windows at R&R while I ate good.

Delicious and traditional Southern cuisine in South Park @ LA Live. The menu has a lot of great options and the drinks are served in large mason jars which is great because so many other places serve drinks in the smallest glasses they can find. I would comfortably say that the hot chicken sandwich was one of the best that I have ever had, and I usually always put extra hot sauce on top but it was not needed tonight because the spice level was perfect.
I started off with the fried green tomatoes and loved them. My parents are from the East Coast so I grew up trying it when I would visit where they were from but I rarely see that on the menu here on the West Coast. It was great to eat it again and it was very tasty. For my entrée I chose the fried catfish and selected the mac & cheese and candied yams as my sides. Everything was cooked perfectly and no fish remained at the end. As previously mentioned we also got the hot chicken sandwich which was very memorable. Finally for dessert we topped it off with the banana pudding and it was just like my mom used to make. Really loved it too so it was an all around very nice meal and I plan to be back in the future.
