Horrendous. Comparable to gas station or grocery store sushi. I have never had a worse Japanese cuisine experience in my life. They are practically scamming customers. At the price point you would think they would be decent but nope could not be further from that. This place makes Japanese food look horrible and it’s insane how much they charge for food that is equivalent quality to lunchables. It’s obvious they use ingredients like Pace salsa and velveeta cheese. Disgusting.
It's the best, most amazing, sushi you're ever going to have, this side of Venus. Sit at the sushi bar, say "Omakase" (Chef's choice). Pick a bamboo of saki (sweet or dry? Chics want sweet), canoodle and feed your babe... spend $300. Go get laid. Ciao, G'Night ????

Went with the omekase, and Peter was absolutely phenomenal. Every dish was amazing, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience.

So I just ordered a $15 Kitsune Udon, check the bag before I leave and see they only filled the broth to-go container less than halfway. Ask if they could fill it with some more broth and they said no I need to order another one for that.
This is how much broth I got. This is a 5” diameter pot filled about 1/3 of the way ???????? won’t be coming back here.

An incredible sushi experience!!! I must mention that I eat sushi frequently and try to explore new sushi restaurants everywhere I travel to, so I’ve had a good share of sushi pretty much all over the world including Japan, but what these guys make in this small restaurant with a very simple decor is amazing!!! Everything that our server Peter (I hope I recall the name correctly) recommended was off the charts and I loved the presentation and the story of every dish! I cannot wait to go back to LA and definitely visit this place again! I highly recommend it!!

Not only a local favorite, but the best Sushi restaurant in the area. Famous for their Ramen that you can only get past 10PM, and you can’t take the leftovers home. This is the original Kanpai. The second Kanpai on Jefferson opened a couple years ago. They serve ramen all day, but it’s just not the same.
The sushi chefs are classically trained. The waitresses and waiters have been serving at this location for a long time. If it’s dinnertime on the weekends, it’s best to make a reservation. The restaurant is small, seating about 10 at the sushi bar, and around 25 at the tables.
They have daily specials - always ask for their opinions. Most of the best tasting dishes have come from being curious and open to suggestions.
My favorite is their Ikura- salmon eggs that are served in a sauce spoon.
Nice selection of private reserve sakes available. Street parking out front is best. The parking lot that sometimes charges is often full.

One of the best sushi restaurant around. Only the best fish, great quality with beautiful flavors. Can get very pricey as they have a very extensive menu ranking from caviar and truffle plates to ramen (after 10pm) and more affordable appetizers. Young crowd. Late dinner.

Very popular, large menu, from sashimi, sushi, tempura to ramen. The sushi were pretty good, especially the Santa Barbara uni, but 10 pieces for $65 was quite expensive. The tempura and salads were good, a bit more American styled though. Service was very good!

I found Kanpai after an evening of drinking beer at the bar down the street, and have been saving it for special occasions ever since. It is by far the best sushi and ramen I've had in LA. They serve spicy ramen after 10pm until they close at 1am, so that's when I recommend going. The sushi masters are truly skilled and have excellent recommendations.
If you go I, recommend a selection of Sake (get the bamboo - excellent size for 2), Sashimi, and Spicy Ramen. The Sake complements the Sashimi, and Kanpai has an excellent selection. I prefer the bar seating at this location.
