Almost walked past but the charm of the shop caught my eye. Without knowing much about Filipino pastries, the gentleman guided us towards our tastes and gave us a jackfruit and plantain egg-roll (probably has a different name…) which was amazing! Also, the best merengues I’ve had EVER, not too sweet not too plain, just right! Can’t recommend enough if you’re in the area!

Always went here as a kid. My family still occasionally buys food here from time to time. They used to be really good. Four stars because that potential, but I wish they can go back to how their quality was before.
Edit May 2022: 5-Stars again for now because we bought the turon (those bananas and a slice of jackfruit inside a candied egg roll wrapper) and they were freshly made.

Cute store with nice folks running it. Husband and I tried the balut when passing by. Tasty and fun. Will go back.

We didn't get to try the turon which seems to be their best seller. Not sure what the hype was about as all the stuff we got were just ok. The milk candies we got didn't seem fresh so that was sad. Was really hoping it was good as we drove far to get here :(
Maybe good for others but I prefer Luisa and Sons

I had never had Filipino desserts. These are so good! And the guy was super nice, giving us extra little things on the side to try. I love plantains and had never had them as a dessert. Definitely worth stopping here.

I have been craving for authentic Filipino sweets lately and unbeknownst to me this small shop was right under my nose all these years. UBP is a mom ‘n pop pastry shop who has been making Filipino sweets, pastries and cakes for 30+ years in Silver Lake. Impressive! They’re located on Griffith Park blvd and Sunset blvd sandwiched between a modern restaurant and a gourmet organic market. I came early morning to grab one of their pastries and check out other Filipino goodies. Interior space was very, very small and a little cramped. However, it’s filled with bread, pastries and other goodies. I was greeted by a young staff, possibly one of the owner’s children attending to their shop. He was welcoming and friendly. I ordered their famous Turon, a deep fried plantain wrapped in spring rolls sprinkled with brown sugar. It was warm, sweet and crunchy. It’s plantain was very soft and sweet. Pure perfection! Turon cost $1.75 bucks each. In general, their prices were reasonable and affordable. They cater to all occasion, hence, the party trays. Parking lot was significantly small. Side street meter parking are available. Overall, I had a good take out order and I highly recommend this pastry shop.

This place is such a hidden gem!!! I almost just walked by it and had to go inside to find out whether they were actually open.
But I’m SO glad I went in.
Their selection I’ll say, is pretty wide although the place appears small. Their pricing is reasonable and service was really good (they didn’t get annoyed with my endless questions!).
I got hopias (ube, mung bean, onion) and plantain lumpias.
Oh my God... the hopias were SO good and the lumpias, I don’t know how they do it but they sweetened the wrap itself and it’s sooo good altogether! The crispy and chewy, gooey wrap coverig the soft and delicious plantain(tasted more like banana to me) inside.
I’d like to try their empanadas next time!!
