The hype is real! Indeed the best chilaquiles in town! What makes them the best? The chips! Have you ever experienced soggy chips? You won’t be disappointed at Cocina 35 because it’s made in house and somehow they’ve found the secret recipe to keep it crunchy after drenching in the delicious sauce.
The line gets really long. The trick is to put yourself on Open Table waitlist while you’re heading out. Check to see how many parties are ahead of you. Whether you need to add yourself when you’re on the way or when you park.
Parking is all on the street by meters. The green curb are 30 minute limit. Otherwise it’s an hour limit. Or ACE across the street. There are free spots along Sixth Ave in front of the restaurant.
We sat outdoor due to our dog. You order and pay inside. When you go inside, you’ll see the entire menu on display in the glass. The portions are huge!
We ordered their best seller which was Los Rancheros chilaquiles and the sampler, Tochomorocho.
Los Rancheros is basically red sauce with chorizo and two eggs.
Tochomorocho came with four items but it was missing beans on my plate. Didn’t realize it until I wrote this review. The sampler was a great way to get regular chilaquiles. It had no meat but a big slice of avocado in green salsa. Two eggs anyway you like it. I got scrambled and it came with diced tomatoes on top of corn tortilla. The last item was a corn tamale. That was my favorite.
Both plates are ginormous. We finished the Los Rancheros because we didn’t want the tomato sauce to get the chips soggy if we waited. I ended up taking home the regular chilaquiles and by then it was soggy and needed to be in the air fryer.
If you like their chips, they sell for $8.50. There’s mugs and t-shirts for merchandise as well as cookies and family combo and food trays.
There’s a location in Otay Mesa but speaking to people in line, they all say Downtown is better. A new location will soon open in Liberty Station.
Their hours are 8am-2pm M-F then 7am-3pm on Sat and Sun.
Everything was absolutely delicious!! Hands down the best chilaquiles we have ever had! Highly recommend.

We joined the waiting list online and once we were close, we drove to find parking. Checked in with the hostess and super efficient menus showing exactly what's on the plate!
The mini pancakes you can choose how the eggs are cooked, same with the chilaquiles dish.

My wife and I came down from L.A. for the weekend and checked this spot out. I have my go to spot for chilaquiles in L.A. but Cocina 35 was easily as good, if not better.
The portions were plentiful, the food delicious (some of the most savory carnitas I have ever had) and the staff were hospitable and helpful.
Definitely going to make this one of our go to spots for San Diego!

The serving sizes are great & the chilaquiles are very yummy!
The tamales were the shining star though!
Be aware that the wait can be very long & the service is usually not that great. I've had a few attitude-y waitresses if you need extra napkins etc.

Tried to go both Saturday and Sunday, queue was huge! Finally made it on Monday morning and was worth trying again.
Big portions (we shared and were completely full!)
Don't have a reference to know if these are really the best chilaquiles or not, but it was delicious!

I called ahead to ask if this place was pet friendly and was told I could order to go and sit outside in the patio once I got my food but we would have no server. When we got there the host told us to go inside with our dog to order at the counter. Once inside, we noticed there was a dog inside, a lady that looked like the manager told us we needed to get out because of the dog. I asked what about that dog and she said it’s a service dog. By the way, that other dog didn’t look like or behave like a service dog. The dog didn’t even have the service dog vest. So you can probably lie and say you have a service dog and go inside with your dog. The manager looking lady was very rude in the way she talked, one of the other workers noticed and apologized for her while she took our order to go and eat outside in their outdoor patio. This waitress went above and beyond and brought us a water bowl for our dog, brought us cups with ice for our drinks and apologized once more for her rude coworker and commented on the fact that the dog inside didn’t even look like a service dog because he was behaving very bad. She made out experience better. The food was very good but not sure if it’s worth $55 dlls for breakfast for 2.

First time here and it didn't disappoint at all. This place was Great!! I have never received my food faster at any other Restaurant than this place did, and it was packed and busy. Not even 15 mins after we ordered we had our meal in front of us. There is a wait to get seated but it's totally worth it!! Food was perfect too. I had the Green Chilaquiles El Patrón. with Adobada on top of it. My friend had the Chilaquiles Divorciados with Chicken and Chipotle and my brother had El Patron plate also with Carnitas on it. Great taste, made however u want it. Definitely coming back here again for sure!!????????????????
