The best Mexican food I’ve had in California. The food was incredible, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The margaritas were strong and flavorful. Our waiter was a younger man and very helpful and answered our questions about the menu. Atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Definitely 5/5
My wife and I happened on this place while staying the night in San Diego near old town. What a pleasant surprise this was. The food was excellent and service was a bit slow but this place was hopping busy. We had what I will call premium seating on the balcony. Our waiter was quite pleasant and made suggestions that helped. My wife is a Mexican National and enjoyed her meal as did I a true gabacho but loves Mexican Food!

Great place to dine! Food looked not much, but it was and it was really tasty. Atmosphere is authentic and they serve suitable drinks (Tequila). Small note, Mexican background music would have made the experience complete! ????????

Great and beautiful dining experience. Great for date nights. Food is very flavorful. Not your typical Mexican theme restaurant. Classy place. Highly recommend. Quality food.

Despite me being in San Diego for 16 years I had never been here….what a mistake. It’s only three minutes away from the other Mexican restaurants in Old Town. However it has superior service and a higher quality of food.
I will say it’s a little more expensive than traditional Mexican food but it’s NOT expensive and the ambiance and food more than make up for the additional cost.

I found El Agave in the Gaslamp Quarter on Father’s Day. I walked in and thought I’d died and gone to restaurant heaven. It’s gorgeously decorated, there’s nice ambient music playing in the background, and there are interesting Tequila bottle collections everywhere you turn. The service is great. We were quickly seated; and once seated, our waiter brought over chilled water and glasses. Soon after that, he brought out the fresh chips and salsas…yes, plural, as in three delicious salsas to choose from. We ordered, and our food didn’t take long. I am not a Tequila drinker, but the wine list is good. I found a nice Rebeiro. This was altogether unlike any other dining experience I’ve ever had, in a very good way. I didn’t want to leave. I’m telling y’all, this is my new favorite California restaurant.

Nice environment, really cozy. I was in San Diego for an event and a local recommended to try the tequila flight. They explained the difference among the 3 types of tequila, they told us some interesting facts about the hundreds of bottles that they have. I didn't eat, but I bet the food would be awesome.

One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve had in California. Fresh ingredients, flavorful salsa, and finger-licking good Al Pastor tacos. The impressive collection of Tequilas and expertly crafted cocktails are a must as well.

My fav Mexican restaurant so far! I love love love it! Ambiance is on the point and also the food!
It was my birthday dinner with group of friends. Our server was outstanding! The first time ever when I tell that I don’t like cilantro to a server in Mexican restaurant, I wasn’t judged by him. 10/10. Excellent service! Amazing food, ultimate tequila selection! I’d love to come back again.
