I just picked up some cupcakes yesterday and they were amazing! Literally the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. I’m half Puerto Rican but didn’t grow up around the food culture. Thank you for giving me a taste! I will definitely be picking these up for the next family event ????????
I was so excited about making a trip to this bakery for I'm always eager to support small businesses - especially a Latina owned business. I drove an hour and half with my mother, sister, daughter, and my granddaughter. We each bought 4 cupcakes plus my mother and I bought quesitos and pastelillos de guayaba.
I was, very disappointed, to say the least. First, the price of the cupcakes and other pastries were very high for the quality and presentation. The cupcakes were gritty (and no I'm not talking about the "crunchy" icing). They all seem to be the same white cake batter moistened with simple syrup flavoring, so much in fact that the paper cupcake cup was soggy at the bottom making it difficult to even get out of the beautiful box. The "crunchy" icing was not my favorite; combined with the grittiness of the cupcake felt like I was eating sand. The merengue of the tres leches tasted like marshmallow fluff that was brûléed to resemble merengue. I sampled each of my cupcakes, only to throw them away.
With that said, the quesitos and pastelillos de guayaba were delicious but they were 4x the cost at any other bakery or shop that sells them. Needless to say, $38.04 I will never spend again at Borinken Cakes.

Reviewing from the PR Festival…
The Cupcakes……the bread itself is nice and moist, they look pretty but the flavor is way too sweet and crumbles apart. The icing is even worse, extremely sweet, like how much sugar goes into these ingredients?? We were told to defrost the cupcakes so we had them the next day the icing stayed hard and even came clean off the bread, because of how stiff is it. At $5 each, I wasted $20 sad. The good reviews must be based on the other things on the menu.

I absolutely love Borinken cakes. The different textures you get in one cupcake are truly such a treat. The flavors are very pronounced and I appreciate that there are different flavors for the month, aside from their staples. Borinken cakes also offers some dairy free and nut free options. I know every time I come here I’m going to get a taste of the Island. The owner, Rachel, is such a sweet soul and I love that she tries her best to make it right. When tasting these cupcakes you have to keep in mind that these are not your traditional cupcakes. 10/10 recommend! I always come back for more - Ari

I love ❤️ trying new things and was so excited to try Borinken Cakes after finding them on TikTok. I ordered a variety of their desserts (Cupcakes/Guava Pastelillitos/Quesitos/ Limber).
Pros:
-The guava pastelillitos and quesitos tasted like my favorite Colombian/Mexican-French pastry’s.
-The Guava Dream cupcake had a yummy creamy topping.
Cons:
-I did an online order days in advance because I wanted to share these at an event and several things were out of stock on the website. Limited menu! However, I still went forward with placing my order since I had high expectations for the menu because of the positive reviews.
-The Cupcake breading was a dry and wet crumble like texture. (You need a spoon/fork to eat the cupcakes. I wasn’t provided with utensils)
-The cupcake toppings of the other three cupcakes (Almond/ Nutella/ Pina Colada) tasted like traditional American frosting, however it had a hard texture. The frosting looked/tasted like it had been sitting all day. I would’ve personally preferred a topping like the Guava Dream.
-The cupcakes were very sweet (even for me,a person who loves sweets).
Overall I’m saddened that I can’t recommend these desserts. I fell in love with the backstory and vision.
Best of luck ????

Dropped by to pick up birthday cupcakes and was intrigued by the Puerto Rico connection. The woman behind the counter explained that the almond cake is inspired by traditional wedding cake, and all the other flavors are based off that cake. The cupcakes were moist, not too sweet, and fresh. She offers spoons with the cakes and you definitely need them as they tend to fall apart. The packaging is adorable. Each cupcake is wrapped in paper and the carrier has a clear window so you can see them.
