I heard all good reviews from my friends, so we decided to pick this French bistro restaurant to celebrate my friend birthday.
We get there like 15 minutes earlier, asked if we can sit down at least outside, answer was no, which I totally understand.
So at 5pm get in and our waiter Allison was nice and friendly... we ordered calamari and .... for appetizer , both was ok, not a wow.
Then we ordered crispy duck, wasn't our taste. Duck meat was still pink inside, not crispy...
Profiterol for dessert, well for those ,who wasn't in Europe will be ok...
Just a little bit disappointed, but overall was ok.
Very nice atmosphere, nice people, but for us was just OK food. We didn't left the place very happy, but once again maybe BECAUSE was the bad starting. Who knows???
I would still recomand for the ambience, good atmosphere and drinks...
We made a reservation for the outdoor patio on Thursday evening, and we loved it. Hidden gem! Well worth the 10 minute drive from downtown. I started with the clam special, the filet was perfectly cooked (the sauce was so delicious I wanted to lick the plate), and blueberry tart special for dessert. My husband had escargot, steak au poivre, crème brûlée. We both loved our food — you could tell there was a lot of thought and attention put into each plate. Prices were also reasonable. Would definitely go back next time we’re in town.

This is a gem! Quiet neighborhood and offer some delicious food. Definitely recommend the paté as a starter. The warm baguette with butter and olive spread was hard to limit to keep room for dinner. The staff was amazing! Will definitely revisit my next visit to Chicago.

It's my very 1st time eating I'm this restaurant & I loved it! The place is beautiful, the patio is beautiful, the service is the best the food really good & the quality is best!
The bathroom is clean. The only thing I didn't like is just that the bathroom is for 1 person at a time. But is spacious & clean.
It is an the high end price.
I highly recommen this place & I will definitely come back!!!

I would give it more stars if I could, it was outstanding in everything from the time we arrived until we left. We had a great view from our table and the service from everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The food was outstanding and so delicious. We started with some drinks and ordered some starters which arrived in time for us to enjoy them before our main course. Everyone in our party agreed the entrees were amazing! We finished with coffee and dessert, a perfect complement to our dinner. We will definitely return..soon!

It was good and I enjoyed the food. The only weird thing is it's a small place and when I walked in, staff just stared at me. No good evening, no may I help you, no nothing. Just stares. Finally I just sat down. Then I went up to the bar and ordered a wine. Then they said we will bring your drink. Then a server came up and asked me if I res. I did not but it was like walk in off the street was so peculiar it threw them for a complete loop.
Anyway, the food was good. The Duck pate presentation was very good as was the Moulton cake.

Beautifully decorated and quaint restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere.
The drinks were phenomenal but the food was better. This restaurant captured the essence of French cuisine. I definitely recommend to come here !

Dinner at Chez Joël Bistrot, was amazing! The place was small but very good French dishes are served here.

I think this may be the best French restaurant in Chicago. Everything from the food, to the service, to the general ambience is incredibly well done. I have visited twice and sat both inside the restaurant and outside in the courtyard and had a lovely time in both locations. On both visits I ordered the baked brie which is a must as it is the perfect start to a meal and has a beautiful presentation. On my first visit I ordered the coq au vin, which was moist and could easily compete with the same dish ordered in a French restaurant in France. On my second visit I ordered the salmon which was expertly grilled to medium rare and served over a fragrant mustard sauce. After watching fries get served to other tables we had to order some for ourselves and were not disappointed. Every fry was perfect, they were thin and crispy and no fry was burnt or soggy. These are a must. For dessert, we finished with the moelleux au chocolate and this rich chocolate dessert was a lovely finish to the meal. If you are looking for delicious french food served in a quiet courtyard/bistro this is the place for you!

Yesterday four of us celebrated my son’s Birthday by dining at your restaurant. We all enjoyed the fine food you made for us. Our server helped make the wine selection and made a wonderful choice. This is a restaurant that we will visit again. My Lamb shank was delightful. As well as the other two selections.

Chez Joel remains one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago! The ambiance and service are impeccable and the food is to die for.
We ordered the Escargot and Chilean Sea Bass (Fish of the Day) and both were incredibly plated and in flavor. They also have one of the best wine lists we have found in the city.
12/10 for Chez Joel

Always a great experience dining here. Some of the best French food in the city hands down. Wonderful variety of dishes as well as wine. We've been coming here for years to celebrate birthdays and look forward to our next visit!
