Do try out the shiitake sushi, the other 2 we tried were average.
We ordered online for pickup which said 20mins but it took 45mins. So we had to sit there for quite some time. But the staff was nice.
Hmm...we must have been there an off night? The edamame was tough, the agedashi tofu was cool and had hardly any bonito on it, our friend called to make sure they had oyakudon and they served her sukiyaki instead. She pointed this out and they brought her the strangest rice bowl with a fried egg but filled with a weird assortment of items in it (inoki in a donburi?). My yellowtail was fresh and delicious and another's tempura udon was tasty. We had high expectations but disappointed. Should have known it was going to be mediocre as there were no Japanese staff nor Japanese people eating there.

Fine stop. Visiting from Houston. Friend took my to see the beach/lake, and on the walk back we decided to stop for a bite.
Food was good. Nothing amazing, but good! Prices were reasonable enough. I will say, they seemed oddly understaffed for a weekend, until suddenly three more staff members showed up out of the blue. A bit odd? But all the same a fine time. No real serious complaints at all.

We popped over here after our tour of the Chicago History Museum and it was a fun find! The rock shrimp and scallop sushi were the best thing we ordered. The Yakisoba could have had a slightly more interesting sauce. Friendly service.

Came during lunch around 1 on a Friday with my bf, it was pretty empty besides a couple tables inside and a few outside. With it being lunch we were hoping for it to be quick so we could get back to work but they took 15 minutes to ask us our drink order once we were sat. It was clear none of the servers knew who was assigned our table and we had like 3 different servers at once which made it kind of confusing. The only thing the first server said when she came up to us was “did you want to put your order in” which kinda caught me off guard. We ordered our food with our drinks to speed the process up and that took a while too. This was my first time visiting and it’s near me so I was kinda bummed that this isn’t a reliable lunch spot when it comes to time. Boss was definitely bummed about me missing the 2:30 meeting ???? I only eat veggie sushi and they made a roll with substitutions for me so that was much appreciated! Just wish it was a little faster with so many servers and not a lot of tables. However the busser guy was a beast and was definitely doing all he could! Overall I’d maybe come back again, just not when I’m tight on time.

I was unfortunately disappointed with the dining experience at Kamehachi. It was a Tues evening and got relatively busy. For at least 15min at a time, multiple times throughout the night, we couldn't even see any waiter to get the attention of. The person we were able to find refused to take the additional food/drink request but thankfully did get the waiter to come by a few minutes later. Add to this a very unusual situation where the hostess was at the table filling up water but then proceeded to pour water on the floor as she was talking to us. Another time someone picking up plates decided to pick up one at a 45° angle with soy sauce on it spilling it all over the table.
Additionally, I was unimpressed with the value for money. The sashimi/nigiri was adequate but I was very unimpressed with the rolls. They were just very underwhelming and boring compared to pretty much anywhere else I've ever been.
I would not recommend Kamehachi to anyone and I will not be returning.

Once upon a time, this was a nicer higher end Asian restaurant. Now, we walked in and saw kids doing body shots and vaping inside, 30 minutes to get our drink order, and the place hadn't looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in months ( look at the walls and the inch thick dust on the lamps and artistry ). Our waiter was the only saving grace, nice and pleasant but overall, a disappointment from what the place used to be.

We went for dinner on a Saturday night. We had made a reservation on open table and stopped in about an hour before our reservation and they had, had a no show so they were able to accommodate us. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were given excellent recommendations on both sushi and drinks. The sushi is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend! We will be back the next time we are in Chicago.

Kamehachi was an amazing birthday dinner date! The rolls were so delicious and fresh (loved the green turtle!) and the service and atmosphere was very good! We will definitely be back!

There's nothing special about this place. Some reviews like in open table rated this restaurant 4.8*. To me it's overrated. The fish selection is nothing impressive, except the price. It's highly overpriced while the fish cut is very small. Not sure why they don't portion it accordingly. I would not go back to this place again. Look how tiny the Yellowtail Hamachi is. And that plate is $22. Ungodly priced with ordinary taste. Such a waste of time.

The food was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything good about our service. As a party of 5, we ordered 2 different bottles of sake, eggplant, spicy tuna deluxe Maki roll, the mayflower Maki roll, uni shooter, sea scallops, Chilean sea bass, salmon teriyaki, yakisoba, and chirashi bowl. The server cautioned that the eggplant was supposed to take longer to prepare, but it and the scallops came out first. The remaining food came out a couple at a time starting 20 minutes later. 30 minutes after, we were still waiting for the uni shooter and chirashi bowl and water refills. Since we couldn't get the attention of our server, we had to flag down the host. Water refills came. Then our server came to the table, retook the order, and the missing food was at our table within 10 minutes. No apologies from the server; no comps for the forgotten food. I watched several other tables arrive, order, eat, and leave. I am hoping our bad service was abnormal. Because of the high quality of the food, next time I am near Old Town, I would give Kamehachi a second try.

The sitting area inside de restaurant was spacious, clean and cozy. Staff could not be more helpful and the food was fresh and delicious. The Faroe Island salmon, Sushi A and B were a great choice to try again in the future.

Me and five of my friend stopped in to Kamehachi after a day at the beach watching the air show and the first thing we noticed was the AC which was much needed. I’m not too big of a sushi fan but the Chicago Crazy was delicious and well portion sized. The food was reasonable quick and overall it was a fun time at Kamehachi. Overall I’d say it changed my perception on Sushi and I’ll be looking forward to our next visit when in the area .

Loved the ambience and service here. The staff Rich and the manager Roger were personal and the best host ever. We even got an appetizer & wine complimentary. The music wasn't too loud. You can still have a conversation without having to yell. The sushi was amazing. I had the Chicago Crazy and the Crouching Tuna Hidden Crab ????. Delicious. Oh and the deep fried banana dessert ????was delicious. I was sooo stuffed after this meal. Took a nice leisure walk back home super happy. No waiting for a table. Got a Huge booth too for 3 people. Owned and operated by authentic Japanese. I would definitely be back here!
