Our first Omakase experience leaned more towards traditional, and overall was incredible.
In the basement of Ramen Takeya is an intimate space with only 6 seats, your server, and most importantly, your sushi chef.
We were served 16 total pieces, and everything we had was fresh and delicious. The staff, including a server we ended up chatting with while having a couple beers before our dinner were all great!
Wonderful first Omakase experience! ????????
the food was soso. but the waiter gave me a really bad expletive , come up and ask me for more tips because he request for a least 20% of the tips ? When you have a bad attitude and not in the good way for the whole services , running my whole day . Thank you for that :)

The meal consisted of about 15 pieces of nigiri. I would say that five of them were dressed well and tasty. The others were more standard presentations. The uni was not a high grade and was a bit metallic and minerally to the taste. Also the sequencing seemed a little odd with the sweeter unagi presented in the middle when it is usually more of a transition towards the end. Meal was done in under an hour so it felt a bit rushed.

This was one of the greatest food experiences of my life. There were so many things I hadn't previously had that I know to look out for in the future. Everything was delicious..10/10 recommend.

Food tasted good but now have raging sharp stomach pains. Both my wife and I are experiencing it. We suspect it was the uni as we saw that an older tray was used that had some leftover before the chef opened a new one. We’re sure we got the one from the old tray as we know in what order he serves what he makes. It was a wonderful experience, just ruined afterwards. Was expecting fresh sushi for the price.

Sushi was mind blowing. Service was like a roadside truck stop. And not in a good way. No drinks offered - we had to look up to see they offer wine/sake and then had to call over the server. Service stopped after 50 min despite saying the seating was for 75 min. When we asked for more pieces at the 55 min mark, we were told “the kitchen was closed.” Needless to say, spend your $450 anywhere else but here!!!!!!

It's was my husband and I first omakase experience. It's absolutely amazing and unforgettable. I usually don't eat raw fish. We believe the price is reasonable. And it's worthy to trying when you're in Chicago.

6-seat omakase located in the basement of the Ramen Takeya shop. The chef served 15 course nigiri with additional add one available. The quality of fish was good and the price was affordable

Very good price omakase ($99/person this time) includes 15 courses (all are nigiri sushi).
Urchin is not so fresh.

My partner and I came for our first Omakase experience for our anniversary and it truly did not disappoint. The food was exquisite, each bite blew us away. The setting was really nice, just 6 seats in an intimate basement/kitchen. The chef was unbelievably talented and our server, Emily, perfectly guided us through everything. $100 per person, and definitely worth it for a special occasion. If you're considering it, it truly as an unforgettable experience.

This is our first time trying Omakase Takeya. We had to move our reservation and the restaurant was really nice and friendly about it. The nigiri are all in great quality but I heard that they used to have much more variety? And the nigiri are all served in a really fast paced! They say the dinner is served in 75min but I’m pretty sure we finished everything and got our check and sign with in 60min. But still, understandable for the covid situation, will want to come back again when they are back to normal menu.

I was very disappointed about this place. First, although the restaurant claims it as a "omakase," it is only "sushi omakase" without any other types of dishes such as sashimi, desserts, or Tempura (the waitress kept explaining due to the COVID everything was not available, but the restaurant did not post any notice on the website despite the increased price). Second, though most of the sushi are fresh, I felt the sea urchin was not, I had diarrhea after the dinner. Third, the omakase only offers you 15 pieces of sushi as 15 courses and it was finished in only 50 minutes. For the rest of the time, you either order the expensive sushi for another time (no other available options) or leave. The omakase was offered in a basement of the restaurant, not a fun place to spend the rest of the time. The worst, it was actually my birthday retreat...
Completely doesn't worth the price ($100 per person before tax, service, and tips)! I don't know why the place has such a high rating. I wish somebody had told me the above things before I went. Completely regret my money and time spent there.

Reasonable pricing for getting these fresh materials in Chicago and serving premium Omakase. However, the courses were too singular that had no other dishes. Also, the add-on price for specific item is too expensive comparing with the price of the overall course. Worth a try for omakase lover, but no need for revisit if the menu remains same.

This was honestly one of the best meals, if not the best meal I’ve ever had. The Omakase style is a wonderful way to experience a highly curated, insanely fresh sushi dinner without having to worry about what you’re ordering. The small room and private chefs make for a wonderfully intimate dining experience and I’d absolutely suggest this for any celebratory significant meals.
The Chef and Staff are very inviting and masters of their crafts. Highly highly suggest.

Overall very good omakase in Chicago, but definitely not comparable to those I’ve had in New York.
The seating is only for 7 people. 16 courses for $130 per person and you are able to order a la carte if you want to order extra after chef is done with all courses.
Fish were very fresh. The uni came from Hokkaido and the otoro came from Spain. We even had A5 wagyu for the shabushabu dish so that was a plus.
However, I feel like the ingredients preparation can be done more thoroughly (the clams in the miso soup had sands in it; the shell of the uni was not removed completely; the chawamushi had air bubbles on top).
