Pretty nice outdoor place to get a burger quick. Lots of large picnic tables. Went at 940 pm on a Sunday for a burger to split with my friend after the second city show. Really great flavor on the meet and have a nice caramelized crust. A little too much bread and needs more pickles and sauce but other than that very good. Meat flavor is top notch. A bit on the expensive side too just for 1 burger was around $11. It’s a double patty. Would come here again
Very good burger! The fries are very thin and not all that special which gives it -1 star. Food is ready pretty quickly though. Plenty of outdoor seating but can get filled up pretty quickly. They give Sir Kensington Ketchup which is great because it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup. Garlic Aioli is also very tasty.

Simply delicious and glorious burger! Garlic aioli is a nice touch with the fries. Love how simple yet tasty everything was. But keep in mind that the standard cheeseburger is plain and when you’re asked if you want “everything on it” that means they add bacon, lettuce and tomatoes for an upcharge— wasn’t a big deal to me but I didn’t realize that was the case until after the fact. Would still definitely recommend this place and will be back!

OMG I think this picture says it all, this burgers place was perfect. Simple selections but with a flavor just on point.
I added tomato, lettuce and bacon to my burger so it was extra delicious ???? ????
We’ve spent $30 person burger and a beer which is cheap for me . Definitely recommend Small Cheval.

The BEST French fries I had in my life! The burger was really good too. A bit pricey.

I visited Small Cheval for the first time after a wedding in 2018, extremely hungover. Just made my second visit and the burger and fries are exactly as amazing as I remember. 11/10, no notes.

It’s a great place for a quick burger. There is usually a line but it does move fast. The menu is fairly simple and is also vegan friendly. The food comes out quick and tastes great with reasonable prices! I would recommend this for a quick bite.

Consistently good quality food and fast service. Lines can get long so definitely wise to order ahead but not a must. Seating is only outdoors and service is fast, assembly line style. This is the place to be to get food like Au Cheval so the out the super long wait times.
Burger always comes out cooked perfectly and the fries are always a win. The garlic aioli sauce is the where the magic truly happens though…I could drink that. It pairs so nicely with the fries and burgers.

A native Chicagoan recommended this place, and it was the best decision of my life. I've never liked French fries, but I loved theirs! It's because they fry it in beef fat instead of oil, which actually tastes cleaner. Dip them in mayo--amazing! Hot and crispy. The burger was fantastic too, but I was extra pleasantly surprised by the fries.

It’s exactly what you want. Got the double cheeseburger and fries, cooked to perfection, out in less than 15 minutes. Absolutely great spot to get a great tasting burger. Pet friendly patio with dog bowls for water…great spot all around.

The Small Cheval burger is always good, definitely in my top 10 for Chicago. I recommend doubling up on the garlic aioli to go with your fries and getting a shake! Just FYI, if you order a cheeseburger, the default is a double - so make sure you're hungry! This location doesn't offer indoor seating, but there are communal picnic benches outdoors where you can bring your dog! If you're ordering delivery, make sure to order 45 min.- 1hr ahead on the weekends!

As much as I adore Au Cheval, I can't deny that I prefer Small Cheval, especially in terms of pricing. Au Cheval is way more expensive than Small Cheval, and I think it is practical to choose this one over the other one. For me, this location of Small Cheval here in Wells is also better than the other location. It was my first time at this location, and I was with my friends. We were seated outside, and then we went for dinner. The place was really nice, as was the atmosphere, including the lightning that really gave us the vibe that we wanted. This is the best place I could ever think of to grab some delicious cheeseburgers and fries. What I like about them is that they are consistent with their food and it is always delicious. We enjoyed the food as much as we enjoyed the wonderful experience of this restaurant. I'm hoping to visit again soon.

Cheeseburger is $15 when you add the lettuce and tomato (which should be included), which explains why the prices aren't listed anywhere. You can literally see where they painted over the prices on the brick wall outside. No indoor seating and when you order you feel like you're intruding on their pickup area. The burger is good but extremely salty and wasn't very hot. This place is okay.

Very simple menu, burger a fries. Had a strawberry shake which was great. Burger also great. No indoor seating so be aware of the weather before you go.
