TL;DR: for casual eaters this place is not bad.
For discernable sushi lovers, save your money for a better place.
Menu is relatively simple with usual corner sushi restaurant offerings.
Fish is very fresh. Rest of the execution is sub par for the price point and market they are trying to compete in. Nigiri was over riced. Rice was warm and soft but too loose.
Soba was not worth ordering as the noodle was over cooked.
Waiter was nice but the hostess was cold and unwelcoming; probably having a bad day.
Had a reservation at Booze Box. Their cocktail list was excellent. Decided to try some of their dishes and we were not disappointed. We were thoroughly impressed with their dishes and even tried some drinks that were off the menu. The staff (Jennifer) went beyond our expectations and had us excited to visit again. Very recommended, would want to make another visit.

Sushi was so good and service was great. Hot Daisy and Godzilla rolls were probably my favorite and the green tea cheesecake was soooo good! Cocktail menu was solid and I would highly recommend the Pear Up. Not a fan of sweet drinks and this one was perfect.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars would have to be the space. It was SUPER tight. I know COVID restrictions on indoor dining have been lifted and i'm sure they want to fit in as many patrons as possible but that was too close for comfort.

Came on a Sunday evening and there was no wait at all. I sat at the bar and it was fun watching the chefs make their food.
I ordered the Daisy Roll and a bowl of ramen. Both are really good, the roll is a bit spicy so beware if you can’t handle spice. Overall, I’d say that it was a bit expensive, both items came out to be $35 which seems a bit much for just one person.

Excellent sushi. Great experience. Loved the offerings of sushi. A little pricey due to the fact that you can only order per piece but they are well done. The rolls are more economical and also tasty.
The sake choices are all good as well.
I'd suggest reservations though

5* for the Nigiri alone. You simply cannot come here without trying the Wagyu, Uni, Unagi and Sake nigiri. The Maki rolls (Torched Salmon Alabaster and Dragon) were good but not mind blowing. We both preferred the Dragon. Very few Udon options with a bland soy 'broth'. Loved the seaweed salad which was not the fake florescent stuff served elsewhere. Note that the place is pricier than the casual small space would imply, priced on the higher end of the spectrum.

I came here for restaurant week with my brother and a friend, and we all enjoyed our meal immensely! The 5-course dinner was surprisingly pretty filling although we did order an extra roll at the end of dinner. The saba cold noodles were our favorite. The dish felt so simple, but the flavors complimented each other well. The fish was fresh on the nigiri and the maki, and they all tasted delicious. The mochi dessert was a perfect end to the meal. I only gave 4 stars because service was pretty mediocre and even with a reservation, we ended up waiting 20 minutes to actually be seated. I would love to come back again and try the bar downstairs!

Fantastic Japanese food! We had miso-tuna sushi, spicy karage, tempura, and even a matcha cocktail. Lastly, special shout-out to the vegetarian “chef’s special”. It was hands down the best vegetarian sushi roll I’ve ever eaten and really appreciated how accommodating the restaurant was to different dietary needs.

Drinks were OK, nothing bad but wasn't impressed with the cocktails.
The okonomiyaki was a nice shared starter.
Unfortunately though, some of the worst sushi I've had including that from a Kroger in Kentucky.
Would be perfect for someone who's looking to taste nothing but added flavors used to mask low quality fish.

Came here late on a Thursday and got lucky with a seat at the bar without waiting. The staff is super friendly, the drinks were yummy and the sushi I tried was fresh and very tasty

Definitely need a reservation for this place. That said I came on a Friday night without one and waited 15 minutes for a spot at the bar which I think was a cooler experience because we got to see the chefs roll the sushi. The restaurant itself is smaller than that I expected with tables placed incredibly close to one another. But the vibe is very lively and a great late night dinner spot right next to soho house.
The rolls itself were good — nothing absolutely amazing about them. The seafood was fresh but the rolls itself were lacking flavor other than the freshness of the fish. There is a crispy rice on their secret menu that I want to try that did look amazing. Otherwise I’d rather go to my local sushi spot than come here.

Definitely need a reservation for this place! For a more romantic vibe make your res at booze box, which is their underground seating area / speakeasy kind of thing. I loved eating down there, but my only complaint is that the tables are extremely small and it’s so dark you can barely see what you’re eating.
That being said the food is amazing! Super creative and a wide variety of delicious things to try.
Don’t miss: the oyster shooters, chicken karaage, nigiri bites (skip the wagyu and go for fish), any maki that sounds good !

Enjoyed a date night at Sushi Dokku. Service was great and always checked in. Ordered the tuna tataki and miso soup as appetizer and for rolls we had the Ecuador and Miso Salmon Maki. Both delicious in their own way. Would come back to try more.

Experience was great. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us on a table that would allow for my stroller to fit, rolls were really good and the lamb chops were excellent.

If you're a sushi lover, sushi dokku is one of the best if not the best sushi restaurant in Chicago. Authentic, consistent and delicious food. The atmosphere is mesmerizing and it's a great date spot. You can eat upstairs dinner at the main lounge and then head downstairs at the bar for drinks. Definitely make reservations at least 5 days in advance because they get booked fast.
