Yellow submarine roll was the best. Great quality fish. I'd give 4.5 if i could!
I will likely be buried in this restaurant. I’ve been a regular for years and have had consistently delicious rolls and VERY welcoming waitstaff. It truly feels like home.
If you go: be sure to grab the breezy roll!

Toro has been our top sushi place in Lincoln Park if not the city for some time now. We have been going to them for over 10 years, and there is not a time Mitch and team disappoint. From the unique rolls (Kamikazee, yellow submarine, and sunny) to the fresh pieces - you really can't go wrong. The funniest is talking to others about it and hearing their passion even if you haven't ever gone there with them. While dining in is the best, don't forget about the takeout to "get your fix." They do an amazing job!

This place is always amazing. Best soft shell crab app. Sashimi was great. Innovative rolls you can't find anywhere else like them. BYOB!!!

Such good sushi…my fiancé and I thought we were only going to order two rolls since we weren’t super hungry…we changed our minds after one bite. Such fresh fish - the spicy tuna and yellowtail was to die for ???? also byob - so easy!!! Only thing I can complain about is that the bathrooms are pretty run down. I won’t knock any stars because the sushi was that amazing.

Walking home and I hear the voice growing louder….I thought I was being followed but instead it was my stomach telling me to stop. I passed a burrito joint, a Hawaiian spot, a NYC pizza slice of Heaven before I decide to indulge in sushi. Indulging is exactly what I did! Best of Both Worlds, Krunchi and Edamame hit the spot like no other choice this night could of. Great service as I sat at the sushi bar. Ordered and everything came as expected. A taste of each and it blew my taste buds to foodie heaven. Definitely a must go to in Lincoln Park. I lived four years in Japan and the sushi here made my stomach stop speaking.

YUUUMMM. Love the sushi here. Lots of great selections for rolls. They are great with gluten free options- even have a gluten free version of soft shell crab. There’s no reservations so hope for the best and prepare for the wait. It’s worth it!

Easily my favorite sushi in Chicago! Mitch is the owner and can always be found behind the bar with a smile on his face and a welcoming (unique) handshake. Toro (and Mitch) are the diamond in the rough of Chicago sushi restaurants.

I ordered nigiri and a roll. The salmon was fine, but the amount of rice compared to the salmon made it very awkward to eat. Not complaining about a big piece of fish but the rice ratio was very off. The tempura roll I ordered was good, just smaller than I anticipated. The miso soup and green tea were alright as well, nothing of note. Staff were nice enough.

Unfortunately, I really didn’t enjoy either rolls. I’ve never met a sushi roll I didn’t enjoy prior to this. I think the issue was that they did not taste fresh. I saw that many reviews talk about how good the rolls here are so maybe it’s a fluke (06/22 evening).

Really good sushi and such quick service! I came in on a Saturday around 6pm and was seated right away. This was my second attempt coming on a Saturday because once the wait was 2 hours when I came around 8pm so my advice is to go early as they do not take reservations!! The appetizers and sushi came out really quickly and I was in and out in under an hour. Very friendly staff and sushi chefs.

Overall: The inevitable wait is worth the quality. Great tasting sushi, much better than anything else I've had in the city. Definitely will come back when the craving hits again.
The good: Best sushi I have had in Chicago, and the best I've ever had in the states. Only sushi I've had that has been better has been in Japan. Reasonable prices too, for sushi anyway. Humble environment with great chefs. Oh, and its BYOB
The bad: The waits are LONG. Plan to put your name down and come back. They don't take reservations either. You will most likely have to wait.
Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Food: 9/10

Delicious, cozy sushi place! It is smaller so make sure you call ahead or just be comfortable with a little wait. It is well worth it! Vegetarian rolls were very imaginative which is typically hard to find. Everything rolling out of the sushi bar looked amazing! Hand rolls, maki, you name it. Deep. Fried. Green. Tea. Ice-cream. No other words needed, so good. BYOB, there is a small convenience store right across the street so it’s easy to grab something cold and bring it in if you aren’t prepared.
