Omg this place is an amazing hidden gem! We accidentally ordered a ton of food and it was all fantastic, super fresh and flavorful, and the slaw and pickled onions they brought to the table made it all next level. Great service too!

A friend recommended it and we didn't know what to expect other than some tasty papusas and anything else we struggled pronouncing correctly. It is located in one of the old AIB college buildings and buildings and it's entrance and parking is on the south side. The bathrooms are down the hall in a shared corridor and were recently remodeled and we're fairly clean.
It was just my wife and I and we went in with big eyes. It was about 5:30 on Wednesday. The space was furnished like a 50s diner but with Central American decor and music, which was cool. We were greeted with an 'hola' which I liked. Maybe 10 people eating in there but could seat 100. It looked like there was also patio seating which looked north and had nice views of Gray's Lake and downtown.
Excellent service and the server took time explaining the menu options. We ordered the appetizer sampler, two different kinds of papusas, and shrimp and cream entree. Everything was tasty with the tubs of slaws (one spicy one not) and hot sauce. The hot sauce was seriously about as good as tasty tacos.
We got water to drink and our bill was maybe 40 bucks so not too bad considering everything we got. We will be back.

Food is fantastic. Wait time was 15+ minutes for two pupusas with the sides.

Best papusas and the fried plantains were delicious. We also loved the el Salvadoran tamale with chicken. Will definitely be back!!

Amazing El Salvadoran food. The papusas and empanadas were delicious. Located in the old AIB cafeteria, the view over Gray's Lake and the Des Moines skyline were great from the balcony.

I am so excited about this location! I work in the same building. Today I ordered 4 pupusas - squash/cheese, loroco/cheese, bean/cheese, and jalapeno and cheese! All four were good, with the bean and jalapeno ones being my favorite! I also ordered a Coca Cola and a La Cascada! The coke is fire as expected and the La Cascada was like a delicious version of a cream soda. Their 'spicy' salsa was HOT and amazing & their sweet/mild salsa had great flavor! I spent $16 on everything and gave half of my food to another person here. It also came with a slaw which I didn't have room to taste but looked great. Delicious, highly recommend!
