Magnolia bakery is delish. Like your Grandma made yummy desserts. I'm a long time customer from NYC and was excited when they opened here.
Enjoyed a dessert breakfast here solely because of finding their NYC Instagram page. The hype is real. Delicious! Pudding is where it's at. Light & not too sweet. Some of the best cake I've had.

Rude staff, mediocre baked good, worst customer service I’ve received. Tried to place an order earlier in the week over the phone, left a voicemail, no one got back to me.
Drove across town to the bakery itself, to place my order directly. Talked to James, he was actually the only polite and friendly person I’ve interacted with there.
He assured me everything would be ready for me to pick up a few days later.
When the day came (Friday), I called in the morning to make sure everything would be ready and accounted for. The guy on the other line assured me it would be ready to pick up by 5pm.
I got there at 5pm, and when I asked the clerk about the order, he looked confused, said he was going to look for it.
Then I waited…
I waited there for 20min. Nothing was said, no update, no communication whatsoever. It’s like they looked through me. This is probably the real live version of being ghosted.
Every-time I tried to make eye contact with a staff member, they would look in the other direction, or turn their back away to clean the counter.
When I tell you this was one of the most awkward retail experience of my life…
When I eventually get the attention of someone, he tells me with a straight face “just give them 20min, they forgot to make the cupcakes”.
The nonchalant tone, and lack of apology sincerely made me think I heard that wrong.
Like there is no way I’m waiting 40minutes total for an order I physically placed days prior, and checked on the day of.
Got my cupcakes eventually, the cashier practically through them at me and turned around, again no apologies.
Anyway… Spare yourself the trouble, there is tons of place around that won’t put you through this.
I recommend Pitchoun! bakery up the street, and also and bakery at Farmers Market by the grove.

Many thanks to BJ who went WAY beyond the call of duty today. Having confused the dates, I needed a cake at the last minute. When I called three other bakeries and told them any cake would do, they quickly told me they could not even discuss a same day order.
Being out of state, I had limited options. So, when I finally called Magnolia Bakery in Los Angeles, I was blessed to have BJ answer the phone. He immediately empathized with me. He put me on hold and spent several minutes making an inventory of EVERY cake and several other options that they had available. So kind!
A few minutes ago, I received a text from Los Angeles. “Did you send the cake? It looks amazing!” Indeed it did. The cake and other deserts were delicious and BJ apparently through some ice cream in as well. Great Bakery and Great staff! Thanks Magnolia Bakery!!!!

What you see online is not what you get. I feel like this is the wish version of the iconic NYC store. Store seemed tired, dusty, and sad. All of the pastry / cake covers were old and cracked and looked like they were stuck in a dish washer instead of hand washed. The sign said closed, no parking so i called 6x and no one answered. At this point using a Covid abs staffing shortage issue as an excuse doesn’t work as there were plenty of staff. And it’s been over 2 years so time to step up and adjust.. The staff had 0 energy and seemed to not be passionate about pastries. The carrot cake pudding seemed like they just shoved it into the container a week ago with lots of icing not pudding but wasn’t for sure if that was there goal or not. Over all was not excited that i drove 2.5 hrs for this.

The NY bakery chain that started the cupcake craze in the 90’s opened its Los Angeles store in 2011. It has since expanded nationwide and internationally under Steve Abram who took over from the originally owners.
Every time I go to NY, I always stopped by Magnolia Bakery in Manhattan on 11 st. to pick up my favorite sweets. I love all their puddings and cupcakes.
I have not been to the LA location until today. We stopped by this shop after Easter brunch at Granville down the street.
The cupcakes are just as good as the ones in NY. The texture of the cakes are awesome and they are not too sweet. The good thing here is that there is no long line.
We got a pecan cheese cake and a banana key lime cake. They both tasted fantastic. The puddings are soft and creamy.
You can buy these cupcakes in a dozen and they are perfect for gift giving.

Thier signature banana pudding lives up to the hype. It is very fresh and delicious. They get sold out an hour or two before closing so if you want to try the pudding, go earlier in the day.

When you go to Magnolia Bakery, especially when it's the only location on the West Coast, you expect phenomenal baked goods and banana pudding.
This is by far the worst branch of Magnolia we have ever had the displeasure of visiting. Forget about getting your favourite cheesecakes or cakes... all they had available was chocolate cake and vanilla cake and a handful of cupcakes. We asked about whether they had carrot cake available, and they told us it would be available at 4pm. We called at 4pm, and they told us "maybe in an hour". We called after an hour, and they told us they would maybe make it the following day.
Are you kidding me?
To further add insult to injury, our banana pudding had ZERO nilla cookies in it.. what were the bakers thinking? Is there any quality control to verify the recipes? What a monumental disappointment. They tasted old and not fresh. We purposely bought two large tubs of it to take back with us to Canada, and going through Canadian Customs with these was a nightmare, only to find out that they were absolutely terrible.
This location, unfortunately, does a bad job at representing Magnolia Bakery. Management needs to re-evaluate and drastically improve the quality and availability of the baked goods here.
