Absolutely delicious, highly recommended for anyone who enjoys soul food.
The chicken skin was crispy and flavorful. The meat was juicy as well, even a breast piece.
The collard greens, Mac and cheese and yams were delicious
To top that off, the staff was incredibly friendly.
I didn't get the chance to try the sweet tea or cornbread so I'm looking forward to my next visit to try those (and other) things.
i ordered the smothered chicken platter (which came with two sides) with mac n cheese and collared greens. starting with the chicken, the meat was so. incredibly. juicy. the chicken came smothered in their signature braised gravy which was absolutely delicious. i will say that the gravy softens the texture of the skin, so if you want a crispy skin, you’ll want to stick with the regular pan fried chicken. the mac n cheese was delectable— wasn’t in love with the texture, but the flavor was really tasty. the collared greens were amazing though i typically prefer a slightly stronger vinegar flavor, but it was still incredible. all in all highly recommend checking them out.
note: they don’t have seating so you’ll have to bring your food to go

absolutely poppin. the staff is super nice and i love the vibrant and welcoming energy they have. the chicken was seasoned perfectly and tasted just as good (if not better) cold when it sits out a minute. loved that. and the sides were all solid as heck. loved the celery seeds inside the coleslaw gave it an extra umph, the mac was a traditional solid mac nothing spectacular but still great, and the collards were just divine. the family meal is enough food for 4 people probably making it about 10 bucks a head so that's a steal right now and honestly at this price point it makes it better then going anywhere else for fried chicken. can't wait for them to open downtown or in brooklyn!!!

I’m so glad Charles opened this outlet on the UWS. This is fried chicken done right - super crispy, tender and flavorful. Came with choice of 2 large sides - I had the collard greens and mac&cheese which were also really good. Take out only but Central Park is only a few blocks away.:)

My friend gave me the menu 2 weeks back and told me they just opened so I went there today and let me tell you their food is ????????. It slaps (means it's good) especially the Yams. I mean it is very tasty, not too sweet, not too bland, just perfection. Mac and cheese is great as well as the chicken. Me and my son love soul food and it is better than my Yams ????. The Limeade is the right amount of sugary sweetness I like. Even though the cornbread breaks apart easily, its ok because I know its fresh. ???????? I will definitely be coming back. The staff is good and they even threw in a couple pieces of Cornbread because they were out of desserts.

First time visting Charle's Pan Fried Chicken. The employees were so nice there. They gave our kids a sample of their cornbread warm. It was delicious! We ordered the Family Fried Chicken meal for $40 and a peach cobbler for $6 to go. Family meal comes with, I believe, 10 pieces (3 wings, 2 drums, 3 thighs, and 2 breasts); 3 sides; and big box of cornbread. The Fried Chicken was yummy, crispy skin and juicy meat. We took the recommendation of the nice employee for the 3 sides, mac 'n' cheese; collard greens; and candied yams. She told us to eat all 3 together and she was right! The combination of the Fried chicken and the 3 sides plus corn bread was delicious! I would recommend that combo too!

Now listen…I’m a born and raised New Yorker but my family is from the South, so when it comes to traditional, Southern style home cooked meals, the bar is really high. When I tell you that this place topped the charts, I am not kidding you. The chicken is to die for. Amazing flavor, perfect crunch, and minimal grease. The collard greens remind me of my grandmother’s. Again, great flavor and nice consistency. The yams were fantastic! The cornbread made me want to cry from how good it was. And the coleslaw is more along the savory side, with little to no sugar, which is fine by me. It was very tasty as well. The mac and cheese was very good, too, but the consistency is what threw me off a little bit. But, understanding that everyone has their own recipe for baked mac and cheese, there is no “right” way. But the best thing of all is tasting this food, sharing it with my family, and basking in the “soul” of this soul food.

Hot, crispy, juicy, delicious fried chicken—huge pieces with so much good meat and so little fat/bone. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and threw in some lovely moist cornbread, just slightly sweet, for free. Really quick service. We ordered at the counter and ate the chicken on our own homemade waffles back at the apartment. A+ for a go-to quick meal.

We got take out. The fried chicken was barely edible, excessively greasy, and the BBQ chicken was rubbery. The best thing (believe it or not) was the collard greens. The sweet potato and macaroni sides were also good. Definitely will not return. A devastating disappointment for a restaurant that is much hyped.

Quality fresh ingredients, large portions. We got a Family Meal which includes 10 pieces of chicken, 3 large sides and 6 cornbread. They were out of cornbread and substituted with another large side instead. Total $35 and seriously could feed 5-6 people.
We really appreciate the friendly staff. The lines on the first few days of opening seemed never ending. The staff no doubt were on their feet for hours, yet still had friendly banter and genuine smiles on their faces.
The food was tasty but not loaded with salt. The chicken was crispy & crunchy on the outside and perfectly done on the inside.
Can’t say it will replace Popeyes or KFC or Chik Fil-a for me. All these have a place including Charles. Great to have a option like this on the UWS.
