I go out of my way to support black owned businesses but my people. You have have to better in the area of BUSINESS.
They have outdated prices on their chalkboard menu (no excuse not to update it). The item I ordered was $11.50 but they charged me $15.50 and when I asked they said “oh the menu needs to be updated”. Ordering from here is a mess, they have no logic separating people picking up orders from people waiting in line. I stood in line for an extended period of time because they thought I was picking up.
Lastly, they have signs that indicate they accept visa/Mastercard/American Express/discover and they also have signs that say “CASH ONLY”. Which one is it?
At present, my first impression is that this place is poorly ran. It’s disappointing and unfortunate. The fact that I didn’t give them a 2 star is a result of me extending them some grace
I love this place! Come here for real auntie vibes. No, it’s not the most efficient but honestly there are countless places for soul food in a corporate atmosphere if that’s what you want. Here you get great food at a great price in a laid back authentic setting. Love.

Absolutely delicious as usual. They never disappoint. Catfish was light and crispy and the sides were on point.

The place is a small conversational dining room experience. The art, the music, the setting is sweet. I just wish I was in the kitchen ????

I had a mixed bag experience. The service was great - very friendly and kind. The wait for the food was pretty long (and even longer for a man who called ahead for food). The two dine in chairs were both broken. The pork chop dinner (with mashed potatoes, yams, and cornbread) was alright but not necessarily great. They DO accept credit cards (despite a cash only sign). I would be curious to try their breakfast selections.

Finally got food 55 mins after ordering and it's very good.
Original 1 star review:
lady working behind the counter tells me it's gonna be 30 more minutes after I've already waited 20 mins, and I need to wait outside? Even tho there's no line or nothing? Not even busy in there.. why u ask a customer to go wait outside in the july heat?

It is a dilapidated hole in the wall place. The restaurant decor is full of black memorabilia, but the place is dirty. The food is subpar with small portions for the price you pay. The service is awful served with an attitude to boot. After standing there for over 45 minutes waiting for my food the woman comes out and presents us with luke warm food and opens the carton to show us our food like it was 5 star dining.
If you are looking for excellent soul food go to Liberty soul food @1639 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11207. My goodness is the food fresh and flavorful with a big portion and inexpensive!

Although a small space it was very comfortable for myself, wife, and two children. The atmosphere was very reminiscent of Martha's from Cooley High. The images of historical figures was highly appreciated and the music was spot on to the era given off by the atmosphere. The food was TOP NOTCH, definitely going to go back here when looking for some good soul food!

Amazing breakfast in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Warm people, great Soul music and delicious food. I strongly recommend this place.

This place has most excellent vibes. Wall art that feels authentic, not procured by some corporate restaurateur. Great tunes. A menu that is simple but feels truly domestic and comforting. Fantastic, endearing alternative to the “trendy” soul food nearby. Worth the stop, especially for their Sweet Tea.
