This place is an absolute gem! The atmosphere and ambiance is so beautiful. The food is to die for and it is very popular. I arrived a little bit after 8:00 p.m. and was seated shortly after. However, when I was leaving out, there was a large crowd of individuals waiting outside waiting to be seated as the weight grew and grew because of the popularity of this. Wonderful establishment!. I'll be back for some more of that fried catfish and macaroni !

Came here for my birthday and had a great time. The decor was very beautiful and the food was everything I expected. The staff was very friendly and our waitress was especially great. The overall atmosphere was sophisticated and pleasant, though the dress code on the door may be off-putting if you wanted a more casual night out.

This was our first time visiting SOUTH restaurant in Philly after I got am advertisement from Capital One to make a reservation.
First thing I have to see is that the staff is extemely friendly and on top of everything. If you book for 6:30 and you're not there yet, expect to be called.
The staff was super attentive, made conversation, and took care of all our needs.
Now for the food?
Oh man the food. The cornbread they give you to start with is absolutely delicious. It was both savory and sweet.
There was also a watermelon and heirloom tomato that was a great starter salad and I don't even like watermelon. But the melon from here was incredibly good.
My short rib entre was absolutely amazing. The sweet potatoes are soft and borderline creamy. The short rib itself falls apart easily and had a sauce that reminded me of a great meatloaf.
My wife got the fried chicken with the hot honey on the side. Is the hot honey spicy? Well spicy is subjective. Some people can tolerate it better than others, like me. Knowing my wife is a lightweight, the hot honey was too hot for her. I could have eaten it without a problem though, so you have to know your spicy tolerance.
The last thing that was pretty amazing about this place was seeing the jazz acts. We saw the Brianna Thomas band and they were a delightful show to listen to as we ate dinner. Ms. Thomas is very interactive with the crowd and the band was awesome. There are different acts that play at South and I'm glad we went to see her band.
Cost-wise South is expensive but you get great value for your meal. (Ticket to see the band is a separate cost.) This is one of those places that would be awesome for date nights and anniversary dinners.
We can't afford to come all the time because my wife and I live in central NJ but we would definitely consider coming back.

This place is amazing. First of all great ambiance and vibes. The decor is beautiful. The staff was wonderful. We couldn't get reservations but was able to sit at the bar with no wait. The good was so good here that we ate here twice while on vacation. The cornbread was my favorite then the mac & cheese. I also have the shrimp & grits and they were good. My husband had the fried chicken and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend and visit again

Honestly some of the best food I’ve ever had. Terri made our experience so phenomenal, we’d come back just for her. Will be making special trips just to eat here and have her as a server.
Also the value for the amount of food you get, is fantastic!
Definitely get the bread pudding!!

Made reservation online for the counter which allows us to watch the chefs in the kitchen. Wait staff was friendly and pleasant. We sat down right at 9:15, our reservation time. The jazz band had just step up to play so the atmosphere was buzzing. We ordered bar drinks and shared the shrimp and grits as an app. Very good. I got the catfish and shrimp and it was excellent. Food came out fast and hot. Will definitely recommend.

Our local friend booked a table for us weeks ahead and it indeed was worth it. The place has a really good vibe and service was excellent. One of the manager came to greet us for 3 times to make sure we were happy with our food and drinks in addition to our server. Food wise, crab toast, crab cakes, crab toast. Eat the crabs. Their boneless ribs are good too but eat the CRABS!

I had a phenomenal time at South!
As soon as I walked in I loved the vibe and the overall environment. The decor was beautiful and the place overall felt peaceful. It's perfect for a nice romantic evening and for a very chill date with girlfriends. They also have live Jazz available (check dates.)
Our waiter was beyond excellent! Amicable, respectful, extremely attentive and beyond kind. He answered all of our questions, engaged in conversation and even checked in with us just the right about of times.
The food was extraordinary! I have to admit that I was not expecting it to be as savory and delicious as it was but I was floored! Just excellent. I would go back in a heartbeat! I highly recommend South, especially if you're into southern cuisine.
Food recommendation: You can't go wrong with the creamy collards! Phenomenal taste!

Have to do reservation to eat here but I Love the service the young lady at the door gave us as table anyways we got to watch the jazz show for free. The drinks was good very strong and delicious ????. The server could be more thoughtful on checking on her tables, but she had good service as well. The plating for the dishes we got could be a lot better and cleaner. The Turkey wings was dry I thought because they were roasted they would have a lot of flavor and taste to it but it honestly had no taste. The corn beard barely had corn in it didn’t realize it was suppose to have corn until I got one in my last bite of it, also could of been a lil sweeter. The fried chicken wings had no flavor was dry!! Basically the plate was just bland. Could have a lot more taste to the ingredients on the plate.

The whole evening was such a delight! From the courteous hostess, to our knowledgeable waiter, then the delectable dish and the marvelous music of Ms. Julie Dexter, I couldn't ask for a better send off into the work week! I will definitely be dining here again and again. I ordered the Catfish and shrimp with a side of creamed turkey collards, it was excellent. Oh and finished with pineapple bread pudding. Such a great experience this was!
