I came here for a solo happy hour (4-7) and will definitely be back. I enjoyed how attentive the bartenders are — constantly refreshing my chips and quickly making drinks (which we luv)
The drink menu was on theme and their were a good amount of options. I ordered the chicken verde enchiladas and they were so gooood! Except for the random chopped red onions thrown on top.
They had plenty of seating both at the bar and indoor/outdoor with heaters.
Never heard of Candente until running across it last night. Absolutely delicious! Definitely will become one of our favorites. Pictured: Salsa that had a nice smokey taste and Brisket Enchiladas. Can't wait to return!

A huge restaurant with a lot going on. The food was really good. The rack of ribs was perfectly cooked and the spicy rub was delicious. The chicken fajitas were really flavorful and tender and the homemade tortillas were excellent. The chips and red and green salsa were great and the charro beans and rice were delicious.

Candente is tasty and unique for Tex mex! They are great for serving large parties. I came here with my company of 20+ and we had a great time with their outdoor seating! The brisket nachos are super good!!

Candente was pretty middle of the pack in terms of Tex-Mex in Houston. The service was friendly and I enjoyed the atmosphere. The queso is a white queso that has a great initial taste but lacks depth other quesos offer. Although they are supposedly known for their fajitas, I was expecting more. The chicken could have been marinated more and have more flavor. It also could have been cooked a little more tender. We got a frozen premium margarita that was solid and on par with most restaurants. Overall, Candente is not a bad experience but there are other places in Houston that shine more.
(Of note- you are given more fajitas than are shown in my photo)

Saw this place on a food bloggers page and decided to come since I was in Houston for the weekend. We initially came because we love Mexican food and have been dying to try the Birria tacos for a while now. We came during happy hour and it was great. Plenty of availability and the margaritas were good. We got the Chile Con Queso w/taco meat to start and it was good. I’m a BIG queso fan and this didn’t disappoint. They serve a green and red salsa which were extremely good and flavorful, not spicy at all which I loved because I’m not big on spice. Four our entrees we of course got the Tacos Birria De Res which were good but a lottle too spicy for my liking. My husband, however, devoured them ????. The tacos did come with rice and beans, and the rice was amazing. Very flavorful, had I known we would have gotten double rice instead of the beans. I opted to get a small order of the Brisket Nachos because I saw a picture of them and they looked sooo good. Let’s just say I’m happy I got the small. The flavors of the nachos did not pair well together. They should take away the barbecue sauce because WHY?! And add some type of avocado or a queso sauce instead. They just DID NOT hit the spot for me. Overall I give 3 stars because our experience was great and CS was on point!

Cool spot, service was friendly and attentive. Salsa with chips was pretty good. Taco de Carbon were ok. Meat was good...chicken smoked well and tender meat but the tortillas were a bit dry. Queso not too bad either.
I'd probably get the crunchy tacos if I went again. They looked much better than what I got.

Excellent service, atmosphere and food! We preferred the frozen premium margarita over the "rocks." The frozen version was more tart and limey, which we enjoy.
The queso and guacamole are good to early order and enjoy across the meal.
The beef fajitas were seasoned and marinated perfectly. The surprise dish of the night was the brisket enchilada...wow! Do yourself a favor and get this a la cart if you don't make it your entree - so good.

This place is the sister restaurant to the Pit Room BBQ a block away. I'm on the fence regarding their attempt at creating a Mexican food restaurant. I mean everything tasted ok I guess but the jury is out and I'll go back sometime and try other dishes. They tried to create a BBQ brisket enchiladas plate but the brisket was so dry, I only ate 1 of the 3 on my plate. The cheese topping and flour tortilla wrapping was edible though, as was the beans and rice. To be honest, last year or so I thought the Pit Room BBQ brisket was dry and tough as well but I thought this would be different. It was the same. If it wasn't for Adriana (?) one of the front of house managers(?), I probably wouldn't give them a second visit however she was attentive, customer oriented, welcoming and pretty much saved this first visit from the awful service from waiter Mike/Michael.
The only thing the waiter did was come by, tossed a couple of plates down like he was dealing cards (which is different from placing the plate down), take the order, delivered one draft beer and presented the check at the end... checking in once the whole time. The food runners from the kitchen did a fantastic job getting the food out and Adriana served the table a second beer when she noticed it was getting low and stopped to check, not Mike. He didn't seem like he wanted to be there, didn't introduce himself, if they had specials we weren't told and he never tried to up sale nor offer any recommendations.
