Hunan Chef Reviews

So a lot of the buffet dishes were not labeled. Not most, but about 30%. Especially the fish dishes.

You need to know what you're eating. You know?

The food that was labeled or that I knew what it was already, was pretty good. Not great. Good.

Got there about 11:15 a.m. on a weekday lunch hour.

I enjoyed the mushrooms, barbecue chicken skewers, rangoon, sauteed green beans and orange chicken.

The tiny sushi bar was cramped, cluttered and didn't have much of a selection..

Was it worth the $14 for a weekday lunch hour? Maybe every once in awhile if I'm close and really craving Chinese food.

These comments are my opinion based on my own experience. Other people may have other opinions based on their own experiences.

We were looking for an Asian buffet for lunch and we ended up choosing Hunan chef.
We waited a bit before being seated and once we found a table, we headed towards the buffet spread. They have a wide variety of items, in chicken itself they offer: Orange chicken, Kung Pao chicken, Jalapeno chicken, Sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken, and chicken on a stick. We absolutely loved the Jalapeno Chicken and sesame chicken. They also have pork ribs (they were only okay) and steak options. Apart from that, they serve baked salmon, fried fish, fried crab wontons, oysters, mussels etc.

They serve white rice, steamed corn, steamed pork dumplings and fried pork dumplings. The stuffing in the dumplings is good the exterior however had become a bit chewy. I must also mention that their chilli oil is delicious. Along with all of what I mentioned earlier, they also serve different sauces, fresh fruit, a selection of soups, fried potato wedges, french fries, corn patties, fried biscuits, fried chicken, and a few more items. They have a sushi bar too.

In the dessert section, they offer chocolate cake, jelly, custard, a delicious coconut sweet, and fried dough coated with cinnamon sugar. They also offer soft serves in a small cone in the vanilla, chocolate, and Choco vanilla flavor. It is definitely a wonderful item to top off the buffet with.

Although they have a comparatively limited spread, this is a place where you can expect an affordable meal that mostly tasty and is of good quality. The staff is polite and helpful. We enjoyed our time here but, we do feel some improvements need to be made. 4 stars because we liked about 60-70% items on their menu. Among other things, the dumplings were disappointing and the egg rolls/vegetable rolls didn't seem to be fresh, and we also felt that they need to add more items to their dessert section.

Maybe I didn't try the right dishes. Hunan Chinese food is typically spicy. That's not the case here. The food on the buffet is fresh and hot. Senior discounts are not offered at this restaurant.

Place is always crowded but they accommodate you pretty quickly. Lots of great food and plenty of options for the whole family

$15 on a Saturday with just water. The barbecued meat didn't taste as good as it looked. All the fish were real good except the imitation crab salad where that crab didn't taste very good and had way too much celery in it. I really liked the sliced tomatoes that has some kind of marinade on them. Plenty of variety including some American food sushi salad and desserts.

Visited with my wife for dinner. I estimate that the restaurant was about half full. The food was hot, and at that time the turnover to fresh servings was fine.
.
I quite enjoyed the sesame chicken and the egg rolls. A surprise delight was the brown rice, which was plump and nutty.

Seriously the best service I have ever had at a Chinese buffet. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I asked for extra lemons and he brought me a whole plate full - no exaggeration! Love my lemons!!
Great selection of items on the buffet bar, including but not limited to: fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, Mongolian pork, eggrolls, spring rolls, mushrooms, soups, Singapore noodles, pad Thai, kung pao chicken, sauteed green beans and sushi. Everything was tasty and flavorful.
The atmosphere is a little lacking. Restaurant was fairly clean (carpet needs attention), chairs have some splits in the seats and lighting is a little low. Makes the place look dingy.
Prices are comparable to other buffets.
All in all, I am happy with the food and service, just feel they should work on the restaurant itself for a better look. Presentation is everything. I was a little concerned if the dining area looked this way, what must the kitchen look like?

First time here and I liked it. They had the type of food I was looking for. I will say although the food tasted good. It wasn't as "freshly made" or "hot" food as I would've liked it but still I was glad to have found a buffet with "Chinese food" being the main thing. Definitely will return.
