First time here and loved it. You always tell by the chips and salsa and sure enough they were hot and fresh. We got the stuffed poblano special and flautas and couldn't have made a better choice. The flautas were crispy and soft and the poblano was tender and covered in a delicious salsa. Come check it out. Only down part was coffee was watery but still drinkable lol
Service was not great, no suggestions, nothing, basically: 'what do you want?"
Our drinks were empty a couple of times, had to ask the bus person for refills, and server just dropped the bill, no people skills.
Food was good, torta was too fluffy, meat was good.
I'll return if someone is buying, but I won't be spend my money here again.

La Tapatia is one of those places for which every Houstonian has a story. This location has been here for years and I used to come here as an undergrad student for their late nights eats and great happy hours. This was my first time back after the pandemic shut everything down and they definitely delivered!
Everything tastes like I remember. Both the red and green salsas are spicy served with hot and salty tortilla chips. We got the mixed fajitas and ordered them medium rare, but they were more like medium well. They didn’t come out sizzling either and seemed like they had been waiting under a heating lamp. It was great to be served our meal so quickly, but I wish they had taken the time to prepare them medium rare instead of getting our food with our margaritas. My margarita, The Ultimate, was salty, but my wife’s margarita, (the one below The Ultimate on the drink menu) was less salty. They come in huge glasses, but there are no prices listed on the drink menu — just a heads up.
The patio is a highlight because they have both heating lamps and fans for all seasons and weather. The parking lot is challenging, but if you can maneuver it you’ll have a great time on the patio or indoors.
The service is great, the food comes out quick, and it tastes like you remember. Sometimes that’s all you want.

So I have yet to take the time to eat any place that didn't hand my food to me in a bag in Houston for a while now. I make a couple trips here a year now after living here for 6.5 years, and usually it's a get in get out kind of trip.
Well beings that we had the time, and that we were to meet up with my future brother in law, a decent dinner was to be had. They chose for us, and we ended up here.
And I couldn't of been happier.
Service was great, location was pleasant (the misses spent a lot of time in the area and her brother has worked the same club for 24 years. Great atmosphere in the neighborhoods). The food was great, as were the drinks.
This will definatly be on my frequent list (as we are moving back) and I can't wait to try more of the menu.

From the moment we had to deal with the rude and unfriendly hostess, I felt the place was not the correct one to enjoy a Sunday lunch with the family. The lady barely acknowledged us and directed us to our table. Which wasn’t my favorite spot, but that’s ok. The “beef” on the tostadas was basically nerves and fat or “pellejos” apparently it was boiled and finely chopped to trick the customers. ???? the attached pic shows how we left the plate. The fries served with the tortas were flavorless. This Tapatia Mexican Cafe #2 has become more of a place to get drunk and have chips ( by the way the chips and salsa were decent). Overrated! apparently the waiter was tired and just complied with his task, hence only the 15% tip. I was tired to ask for the manager and complain, by seeing the apathy of the staff , I just didn’t want to ruin the rest of my outing. The attempt was make to dig into the tostada and eat from it, but the beef was disgusting. Anyways, if you want to experience Tex-Mex or Mexican food , this is not the place.

My daughter lives about three blocks from this restaurant on Richmond. We gathered here on her 40th birthday. It is a great place to get together for family events-- holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
They have a large dining room with plenty of room for social distancing. The food is excellent and served piping hot. Our server was very pleasant and attentive.

Came here to meet up with friends and the food started off strong. The chips were crunchy and delicious without salt. The red and green dip given had a nice kick and some flavor. Then the queso dip came and that was fine, same as any old yellow cheese dip. Their menu did confuse me and made me think, under the "Queso" section meant queso dip but out of 5 of the options only one was queso "dip" and also was the only one that used yellow cheese. If they are going to have 4 other queso options using white cheese (which I very much prefer) use them as a dip too! As for my main course I got the shrimp enchiladas with Mexican rice and refried beans. First off those beans were pale, tasted and looked like from a can of refried beans with even less flavor. Second that Mexican rice was not Mexican rice: it was extra bland, a light orange color, and tasted nothing like the Mexican rice I know both from friends and other Mexican restaurants. Lastly my enchiladas had a lot of cheese which was great and delicious, but despite all that the shrimp and enchilada part had little flavor! If I go again I'll just eat the chips and dips.

My meal was delicious, and the la tapatia-rita and perfect margaritas were both well-made. I liked that I was able to combine 3 different enchiladas to create my own combo which didn't come with a price markup. I appreciated that they accommodated a request to surprise one member of my party with a birthday song. And the singing was accompanied with a delightful complimentary dessert.
