We arrived at One Dragon on a Saturday evening. The waitress was not in particular hospitable. The restaurant had four customers at the time. We ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao, Yan Du Xian (soup), Tender Sweet & Sour Ribs, and Shanghai Noodle. The Pork Xiao Long Bao was excellent, the wrapper/skin was paper-thin and was very tasty. The ribs was tender and the sauce had the right amount of sourness. The noodles used in the Shanghai Noodle was not the usual thick noodle, the texture was very different when flat noodle was used and the onion was under cooked. The soup was below average. The main ingredients for the soup suppose to be fresh bamboo shoots, fresh pork, smoked port; however, I found no smoked pork, no fresh pork and no fresh bamboo shoots. Instead, salted pork, preserved bamboo shoots, and no fresh pork. The streamed rice was cold and was only enough to serve one person. We were quite disappointed. We spent over $50 dollars on this meal, and when we wanted to pay for the meal by credit card, the waitress asked us if we could pay with cash. We didn't understand the reasons behind the request, they clearly posted in the restaurant that they accepted Vise and Master Card.

We loved the food here. There was a bit of trouble with the language barrier but they were understanding and it worked out well. We were the only Caucasian people there, which to me means we're getting authentic food. The food is some of the best I've had. The soup dumplings are amazing and the crispy duck was fantastic!! Would go here often if we lived in the area.

If you come in a group of four or more, it is very likely you have to wait for a while.
Reservation is only limited to off-peak hour.

One of the best Shanghai restaurants in town. I really want to try everything on their menu.

A satisfying place to get good soup dumplings and other Taiwan and Chinese dishes. It’s pricey, but not as much as certain name brand locations with soup dumplings, and the portion sizes are good. If you get dumplings, definitely do both pork and shrimp, it’s worth the up charge compared to just the pork. Definitely the most broth heavy dumplings I’ve had! The pork belly is definitely a must try, and the service is very very nice and pays close attention to what you need. Good place to try soup dumplings if you’ve never had and don’t want to break the bank!

Okay, I’m going to say it - this is one of my favorite places in Houston to eat. One dragon is a no-frills shop run by some of the nicest wait staff around. They are very courteous and efficient and their recommendations are great. Now on to the food - it’s amazing. The sweet and sour pork spare ribs brought me back to my childhood when my mom would cook me the same meal on special occasions. The xiao long bao is equally delicious, with just the right amount of soup inside the dumpling and unbelievably thin (but robust) dumpling skin. All dishes were perfectly portioned and seasoned well. One dragon is a must-try if you’re in Houston!

PRO'S: One Dragon has seven tables and specializes in Shanghai style dumplings different from most dumplings seen in US Chinese restaurants. We're often the only non-Asian patrons in One Dragon. Each order is individually prepared so expect a small wait after ordering. All menu items saying "Shanghai Specialty" are excellent.

CON'S: Avoid weekends, particularly Sunday since Chinese families often dine together on Sunday and there is usually a line waiting to be seated.

SUMMARY: One Dragon's fabulous dumplings will bring us back whenever we're near Houston's Chinatown.

Excellent xaio long bao here. We also ordered scallion beef, and it was fantastic. It's a tiny place, so expect a wait if you go at mealtimes. If you want to look like a regular, write your name on the clipboard that's hanging on the door to get on the waiting list.

Everything at One Dragon Restaurant was amazing. We ate every single bite of the chili ginger tilapia and scallion pancakes. I loved the soup dumplings so much that I had to order seconds. I have always been a fan of steamed dumplings but had never tried soup dumplings before. They are my new favorite and got expert advice on how to eat them so I won't waste any of the delicious broth.

Hidden gem. Must try their chef specials; succulent and juicy soup dumplings and flavorful braised pork belly.

Excellent food!!! Soup dumplings were delicious. Green beans were as good as some I’ve had in Hong Kong. We also enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken, chicken flat noodles with cabbage and onions (like lo mein), tiny wonton soup, egg rolls, and pork and shrimp dumplings. Service seemed slow but be patient. There’s a big language barrier and the masks make it more difficult.
