I've lived in HTown for over 40 years and I have driven by Poppa Burger thousands of times without ever stopping. I even went to UH-Downtown in the 1980s and never ate here. Back then there was a lot of riff raff hanging around, especially at night. But after hearing so many people tell me the burgers there are great, I finally decided to see for myself. And I'm only offering my opinion of their burgers only. They have an expansive menu, but burgers are my thing.
The hamburger patty is trash. They use soy as a filler in their ground beef. This is used as a cost saving technique since they are not using 100% ground beef. Soy gives the patty a distinct flavor that does not taste good IMO. Now this establishment is open 24 hours so if you have been partying late at night and you need to put something in your belly, then maybe eating this burger is for you. But if you are sober, I would stay away from this trash. But if they use soy fillers in the hamburger meat, then I'm sure their beef tacos have the same trashy meat.

Fantastic, low cost all night eatery. It seems some old schoolers may think the quality is not as good as year previous, which I understand but the food now is far better than any fast food big chain. Ill come here often and bring cash!

Wow talk about a classic burger joint!! This small little old fashioned burger joint did not disappoint. I got off my travel path and went across town to fry this place out. I came for the cheese fries, which were amazing!!! BUUUUT THE BURGER OH MY GOOOD IT WAS SO GOOD IT TRULY IS AN OLD FASHIONED HIT YOU RIGHT IN THE SPOT BURGER!!!! AND the prices are super good. Bacon cheese burger with cheese fries and a Mexican glass coke for under $9.00 you can't beat that!!! Cash Only BTW.

Very kind workers, doing their best to work during a late night rush. It gets busy so the food takes quite awhile, which in a texas summer can be unpleasant. The burger meat was the stuff from school, the exact same thing, so it wasn’t great. Really was expecting at least a normal ground beef product. The fries were completely unsalted, and the chicken breast patty was unseasoned and from a tyson’s bag. Gotta ask for napkins, salt, and ketchup otherwise you won’t get them. I’m not snobby but the minimum for me when I go out is better than the heat and eats I can get in my own freezer. Inflation has hit them hard and instead of raising good prices, they lowered quality. It’s a give and take and I think it was the wrong way to go. At least the milkshake was pretty good.

I dont know who all is rating this place but they are LYING!! This place was TRASH!! Food was extremely disappointing! Everything was unseasoned... the buns on our burgers smelled funny... the lettuce was brown and disgusting! The shrimp i had was fried so hard it was hard to chew!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!! Go to a real burger place!!

Poppa Burger is in old fashioned classic burger from the Heart of Htown. With 60 plus years and open 24 hours. It's a must try. They have an extensive menu from Shakes to Tacos to Hot Cheeto pies yes they are delicious!!

Was in the area and stopped by, looking at the menu was a bit complicated since the line is on the other side of it. It was easier to snap a pic and look over it while you wait. Our food came out in a timely manner. The price was great for what we purchased. The burger was good and juicy, a tad too much mayonnaise but overall it was still good. Fries was also great, not too greasy or salty. Good place to go if you’re in the area.
