This is a great little spot in a very competitive restaurant scene. We got the bread service which is an absolute must!! It is essentially a giant pretzel with their homemade pimento cheese spread and a sweet and savory butter. The fried cauliflower, which I expected to like more since it is one of their staples but it just didn't do it for me. We got a summer tomato salad which was so well executed. The perfect summer time dish. The crab cake was outstanding with a delicious dill sauce. We had a braised short rib special, which just didn't shine as much as other items on the table. We ordered a banana pudding for dessert that I really liked. Overall this is a great spot and if I could give them 4.5 stars I would. For me to do a 5 star review everything needs to be over the top outstanding it this wasn't quite there but the price is right, the service was great, and I will be returning for a date night with my husband in the future.
Amazing food and the menu changes every 6weeks to have a different type of experience. Definitely go with a a few people so you can explore more of the menu. Appetizers and desserts are a must! Our waitress Faith was so personable and lovely. You can tell she's very passionate about working there and explains the menu and the flavors perfectly. Kevin the owner is amazing as well!

Came here for a birthday date. We wanted something not so crowded, more intimate and this place was perfect! The food was amazing, we really enjoyed the octopus & the fried cauliflower. The bread service was so unexpectedly delicious, I mean bread is great but this bread with the different butters and cheese was so flavorful! Sadly we didn't get dessert because they were about to close & we felt bad asking for some so late but the coffee and donuts were really tasty according to our table neighbors. Next time, we'll make sure we try it!

High quality food and service. I thought that the meals were made from scratch, with fresh ingredients, very tasty, flavorful and well cooked.
Interesting menu (that changes monthly) and wine list.
Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and kindly replied to our questions about the menu and wine. Besides, she and the cooks went above and beyond to accommodate dietary restrictions, which is well appreciated.
Nice atmosphere, with a kind of European vibe with its pros (lovely, cozy) and cons (could be a bit cramped for some people I guess).
It can be difficult to park in this area.

Delicious food and nice atmosphere. Went on a Friday night and the place felt lively yet intimate. I HIGHLY recommend the brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and the bread service!

I need to preface this by saying that I rarely leave reviews for anything - ever. I don’t get to come to Roost often, but lately I’ve been coming about once per menu change. I’ve celebrated my birthday here twice and I always tell people that it’s one of my favorite spots in the city. That being said, I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Roost last night.
I was celebrating my friends birthday and we both had two glasses of wine, ordered two appetizers, and for dinner she ordered scallops and I got the duck breast. Her scallops were great, my duck was chewy and practically cold by the time it got to the table. Per the picture, the duck was sliced into three pieces and there were three potatoes. I ate ONE of the pieces of duck and half of that I gave to my friend to make sure that I wasn’t being too critical or imagining things. I texted a friend that owns a few restaurants & is an exec chef himself for a second opinion and he said that the little bit of pinkness was a good sign, but of course, duck can not be lukewarm. I told my waitress, she asked what I wanted to do, I asked if it could be comped, and after talking to the owner she told me that they’ll be mindful of the temperature, but because I ate half of the plate that that wasn’t possible. But I could get a free dessert! A picture of my plate at the table and the picture I sent my friend are below. Like I said, I ate one of the slices and 1 1/2 of the potatoes. Saying that I ate half is laughable when the portion was so tiny to begin with. I wasn’t trying to get a free meal, everything else was amazing, but the duck just wasn’t good.
I’m really disappointed that neither the chef or owner decided to speak with me and how this situation was handled.

Came here for Houston Restaurant Week! I managed to get a reservation on the Open Table and they sat me down right away. This restaurant is cute and feels like home. An intimate dinner away. I went with some girls and we all ordered fried cauliflower, 8oz steak, and dessert from the HRW menu.
The fried cauliflower is probably one of the best I've ever had. very good! The steaks were cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the sauce and potatoes were absolutely delicious. Dessert was perfect. The donut holes were well covered with ice cream. Great place to meet friends or have a good night out.

Stopped by for early dinner. Nice friendly neighborhood restaurant. Parking is a bit tough no private lot. We chose a tiny table in the corner and started with a very good sangria. I was not hungry so we decided to share. We each had the aspargus potato soup which sorry chef we both would not order again. The hot out of the oven pretzel was fantastic... my fav! Need a few of those on football sunday lol The crab fritters were crispy good. Loved the sauce. The acorn squash curry was very comforting. Wonderful dish n the nuts on top really added a nice crunch texture to the creamy squash. We would order that again. Same with the sundae it was yummy good. Our server was super nice. We both agreed we would come back.

Truly amazing!! Great wine selection. We went for a date night and got the chef’s tasting for a 3 course meal! Amazing fried cauliflower and polenta fritters. For entrees, the steak was decadent and the chicken n dumplings dish was the best I’ve had! Currently waiting for dessert but already had to give this place 5 stars. Will definitely be back for the rotating menu!!

I had heard many positive and enthusiastic reviews about Roost. Unfortunately, our experience was less than expected. We came for the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu of three courses.
The first course was pretty good (cauliflower was tasty and well cooked; the polenta and sauce were nicely done).
The second course was less stellar (chicken and dumplings was too salty and the chicken was very dry; the crusted gulf fish lacked depth of flavor and the combination of hot fish on top of a lukewarm beet/orange salad was not a good pairing).
The last course was nice, we both ordered the mango sorbet with assorted small fruits of lychee and berries was refreshing.
Overall, the dinner was just ok. I'd say the food was underwhelming. The ambience was intimate and nice lighting. For being indoors, it did become a little too warm and the humidity inside at times felt a bit stifling. The wait staff was incredibly courteous, attentive, and very much appreciated.
