The Palm - Downtown Houston Reviews

Great service... the best! Food was presented well and the taste was good, but still left with better food to be desired! The onion soup is way off and overly sweet. The other dishes were high-end ingredients (I think) with an easily duplicated taste you can make at home.

Great food and ambience. The staff and managers were attentive and very knowledgeable, they had wonderful suggestions. We enjoyed everything recommended. The performer was amazing, this was a great happy hour to finish off the week, we will most definitely be back. I'm also looking forward to booking an event here, the rooms are very nice and I love how each area has different themes and sizes to accommodate groups of various sizes.

Max provided excellent service. His recommendations were spot on. The lamb chops and ribeye were beyond delicious.

I like the new location and the valet is convenient. Some of the best steak I’ve ever had. I added the Oscar style to my steak and it was so good. My favorite menu item was probably the au gratin potatoes.

Was in town for a conference and stopped here on our walk from the convention center to the hotel on a Thursday night.

The venue is inviting with a lounge with a live piano singer. The seating in the dining area is nice as well.

The service was friendly, yet inefficient at times. It took very long to get our entrees even though the place was pretty empty.

The cocktails were perfectly made with creative twists on classics.

The place is an upscale steakhouse, but for a $70 the steak a la carte was disappointing. It was overcooked. The crabcake (1 for $30) had plenty crabcake but was bland. The lobster bisque had real lobster pieces in it. The presentation of it coming in a little pot was beautiful.

Overall, I would stop in to have a drink and enjoy the piano player, but skip the food.

Found another great spot to have a romantic dinner. The live piano player added another level. I had a delicious crab cake. Later enjoyed some great lamb chops and sides. Pictures don't do any justice for how good they were.

The new location is great - the service was fantastic and the food was priced well for the quality, at least during lunch. Very clean and comfortable atmosphere.

We love the new look downtown. The people working here are wonderful. From the moment you walk in until you leave, they make you feel right at home. The veal parmesan was amazing and the veal chop was very tender.

This review is solely on hosting a private event there.

They are very unorganized. Jan, who I dealt with, is all over the place. They don't know what menus they send. The menus are incomplete. I had to ask several questions before I was able to figure out what their menus were offering us.

When I received the contract, they tried to charge me more per person than what was on the menu.

At the event, the food could have been better. The waitstaff was really bad. I guess they are told to just keep opening bottles and pouring wine into glasses no matter what to try to get more sales. They were pouring glasses for people who had already said no. They poured glasses for people when they stepped out of the private room to go to the bathroom and didn't have a chance to say yes they wanted more or no they didn't. These were the pushiest people I have ever dealt with, and for what, a few extra dollars.

I had discussed with the event coordinator about taking wine home and she said that would be okay. Near the end of our event the waiter opened a new bottle of red and a a new bottle of white which stayed untouched because our event was ending. So I asked him if he can cork them and give them to me. He didn't. And we had picked pretty decent priced wines so for him to not give them to me was kind of ridiculous since we are paying for those bottles and he shouldn't have even opened them up in the first place because our event was ending.

They also had no idea about what we actually owed at the end of the night compared to what we had already paid. So they kept asking for over $3000 when I had paid most of that days ago. I had also given them my Landry's number and I have yet to see any points on my account for spending over $4000 at a Landry's restaurant.

I will never host another event here. I've done events at so many places and I had such high hopes for this place since it is fancy and upscale but they were a huge disappoint.

The ambience reminded me a bit of The Walnut Room in Chicago. We enjoyed the Power Lunch selections so much, I didn't get a picture of our main course. The staff is excellent. Matt, our waiter, took great care of us. Eric, the GM was also kind and engaging. We cannot wait to return! Side note: the sidecar cocktail was perfection, even the restaurant playlist was solid.
