Reservation 4-19-22 at new location. Previously went to downtown a year earlier it was a great experience. I reserved a table for our anniversary again at new location, this should been a red flag as phone was answered and greeted but was put on hold I could hear manager walking around I had hang up and call later, I did and got a table for 8:30pm they said no reservation was needed. Upon arriving to new location the front
restaurant was super busy,We introduced ourselves to hostess and she said we needed a reservation, we mentioned we were told different she then sat us at a table place was empty we figured better service. Sat waited for over 20min for a menu and another 20 min before bringing water or asking if we wanted a beverage. charcuterie board order was taken when she asked for drinks it took 45-60 before we saw the appetizer at our table no visit to check our table before appetizer by Hostess/waitress was made for refills or offer or ask if we wanted drinks or even to check up her focus was up front. We did many times have people ask us were the restroom was located as they walked to the stock room on left back & door was open the patrons B-lined their thinking it was a restroom. Sadly to say the romantic ambiance not happening and lack of proper signing was not up if they did have it would point them to right as soon as they entered room , (I suggested this signing arrow for direction) Finally the Charcuterie board arrived delicious as we choose not to have lunch and save our appetite we enjoyed it, the same Waitress came and picked up board and her comment was "You two Inhaled it" , we did not get this until approximately 10pm this was upsetting comment lack of Training , professionalism , and certainly not someone I would put to represent my restaurant, the key word is training. Then order is taken for the meal (9:50pm we get our meal at about 10:15pm. I ordered the New York Strip the plate this was overly salted, best comparison like salt water or salt lick, along with everything the sides were cold and seasoned with more salt .. you see that the plating of meal was poor, , it lacked what we had original Gwendolyn "Love" in the meal..It surprises me how a Chef can allow this to leave the kitchen , It was sent back, yes it was upsetting to me but by all means was I was not disrespectful to waitress or manager ..Keep in mind we are going on 2 hours for a meal to come out "Truly the issue is that everyone is focused on the Ramon noodles up front and bar" and the main dining is on the back burner along with service..keep in mind a few more patrons interrupted us to ask for the location of the restroom. My wife was trying to make the best out of this she even ate her food that was warm she felt badly that she choose this restaurant we had great experience the year earlier on our anniversary. Lets move on to Syphon Coffee order taken at 10:30 apprx along with her desert, coffee was served at 10:45 and desert was brought out at 11pm / coffee and desert should be together, at 10:50 a strong scent of Cigarette smoke enters our dining area they had side door open I checked no one was smoking outside I closed the door I addressed this also it was almost closing time so I think some lit a cigarette thinking it would go unnoticed it didn't and made this ambiance or experience worst. Also,Keep in mind with the appetizer we asked waitress if they had a port she said no they don't serve that, its on the menu, she kept pushing the bar upstairs and how great it was,, (lack of training) eventually manager came out as I requested to speak to her, I did say wanted to speak to the chef .I called and left a message and he did call me back.Chef Sohocki, was apologetic about the experience, I asked him to have us back when kitchen was up to Par Have not heard back 2months later/He said he would do that keep in mind he offered to make dinner in my home that was kind, but what I wanted was the dinner that I got year earlier great service, food. I wasn't expecting a free meal and would. pay for it. Im still waiting , on the call
So service was great, wine was great, food was very average. Just didn't do it for me. Wasn't bad but when you spend 200.00+ for two you want it fantastic. Pumpkin soup was very good but about 1/4 inch in bowl, enough for just a taste. Bread and butter was top of the line. Broccoli salad had a lot of bad looking broccoli in it. Main course was mushy beef with under cooked potatoes. Wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend.
Update: Google put this review under the wrong restaurant. This was for Restaurant Gwendolyn not 5 points. Never ate at 5 points.

The food is unbelievably delicious. Especially taking into consideration it is all industrial (no mixers, blenders, etc). We were delightfully surprised by every dish

We have been to Gwendolyn a few times now and everything is incredible, every single time. My wife and I enjoy the five course with wine pairing and, for us, coming here is a visceral feeling that goes beyond just eating food. We enjoy making opposite courses from the five course so we can taste each other's food with the wine selection. I would encourage anyone to that comes here to try something you would not normally choose on a menu, I am always surprised by what I like when it is prepared by genius.

Roller coaster of flavor
The 7 course ride starts with the assent,
Amuse Bouche: The Duck Shumai - sweet spicy delight
1st Course: Jamaican Butternut Squash Soup - Spicy and creamy with a mild after kick, just wonderful
2nd Course: Green Bean Caeser Salad - superbly presented with an anchovy tuile
3rd Course: Steak Chaliapin - steak and caramelized onion with perfection
Entremezzo: A surprise spiced rose sorbet, careful, you can't get enough
Entree: Duck Veracruzano - a flavorful sensation with perfectly prepared duck
Dessert: Both the Ryzogol (Safron honey rice pudding) & Poires Belle Helene - Caramelized pear; were both welcoming and surprising.
Written by a diner, albeit amateur, but has eating at his share of Michelin star restaurants, this restaurant is San Antonio's jewel, and warrants this review. Also the service was spectacular.
Highly Recommended

No words will do this place justice. I am not even quite sure how to describe our experience.. but in my best words, this place is for sure one of a kind in the MOST beautiful way. Came here on a whim for my birthday and was kindly greeted by Trina who took such great care of us. My husband and I loved the atmosphere and how they let us peek into the kitchen to see our food being prepared! We did the 5 course meal with the wine pairing and it was such an incredible experience that I have never had before.. The food was so flavorful and of course gorgeous! Portions can come off small, but don’t let that fool you.. I was so surprisingly satisfied and full by the end. You can really taste the pureness and freshness of every ingredient used. I just felt like I was in a dream the whole time. We will for sure be back. Restaurant Gwendolyn is a place to remember forever.

This wasn’t just a dinner. It was an experience! If you are a foodie and love great food and a relaxing, wonderful setting, Restaurant Gwendolyn is definitely for you! My wife and I did their 5 course tasting menu and every single crumb was delicious! The stuffed Quail was so good!! Even their table bread was from a 200 year old recipe and melted in your mouth!
This is a great place!

THE BEST MEAL I’ve had in years!
The 7 course tasting with wine pairing was wonderful. This is the real deal, all food locally sourced, including the proteins. Crisp, harmonious light and exciting, the flavors all work together. Service was excellent.

Very good food. Third best tomato soup I ever had. Exceptional service. Everything is local and made in an old world style kitchen. Very cool atmosphere and experience. I thought it was a bit pricey, but I also assume we were paying for the experience as well. Some of the dishes were a bit too creative in my opinion (and I love to try new things), thus, didnt live up to the hype and expectations I had for each dish. That said, the wine pairings were spectacular and the food was delicious.
