Most fantastic food and service I've had in San Antonio in the past 50 years. They have it all. Parking, a massive amount of seating, incredible bar staff, house made everything and mole worth driving down from Austin about once a month. Table side prep of flaming cheese or guacamole ????. Margaritas frozen or rocks are a must. If the weather is to your liking ask to sit on the patio. Plenty of space for large parties
Excellent place with great indoor and outdoor dining options. Thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and courtesy of the waitress. The place has variety of menu and beverages to choose. You’ll also get a complimentary photo of regular/small size of guests with restaurant name and background. If willing, you can buy enlarged ones with frames. Overall had a pleasant dining experience here.

This place was recommended to me by a friend but we were very disappointed. The hostess wasn’t very welcoming. The food was edible. That’s about all I can say. Rice and beans super bland. I had the Verde Enchiladas and definitely not worth the $17 tag on the plate. Enchiladas were decent but not worth going back for. I think the atmosphere is great but that’s about it. Better luck next time.

9:00pm Friday night wait time (according to the hostess) was an hour. We were able to order drinks ahead while we waited for our table. Several couples left and our wait time was cut down to 20 minutes. Top shelf tequila was used for my margarita. It was good, a little on the strong side, but it was still ok. The hubs ordered a Michelada with PacÃfico beer and said it was good but was too peppery. It looked like they used real pepper corns but were too coarse. I enjoyed the chips and salsa, salsa was tasty and had a lot of flavor and a nice kick to it. My son and I ordered Tacos Norteños and the fajita inside the tacos was very savory. It had beans in the taco as well but nothing excessive. I enjoyed the cabbage and prefer it to lettuce as it complimented the taco with a fresh, crisp texture in every bite. I expected a little more avocado as my two tacos only had a single sliver of avocado in it. The tortilla itself in my tacos were slightly crispy and soft at the same time. I enjoyed the taste as well. I could taste and smell the cast iron skillet they were seared on. I particularly enjoyed the rice as it tasted authentic and none of the seasoning was overpowering. Beans were ok but I've definitely had better. My husband said that my mom makes better beans a la charra from a can, soooo...lol. My husband had Tacos al Pastor and he got 3 tacos and were obviously not authentic because they don't have an actual trompo where they actually slice the meat off of the vertical spinning top with the pineapple on the kebab. Anywho. He gives it a 3, as tortillas were not Homemade and we've had the luxury of eating Tacos Al Pastor from an authentic tacos al pastor place. Lastly, our 6 year old was very satisfied with his cheese enchiladas. He is a big fan of enchilada plates, and was able to eat 2 of the three enchiladas from his adult portioned plate. He enjoyed his rice and beans as well. We enjoyed the atmosphere and our waiter was very attentive, conversational, likeable. He was running on his last fumes but did not slack off or skimp on service. Wonderful night with the fam and the ambiance was one we will never forget.

La Fogata is one of the better Tex-Mex restaurants that leans slightly Mex. Their menu is full at solid attempts at more traditional Mexican dishes like cochinita pibil or pozole. I think you'll find that while many dishes here are pretty good, none are great. It's a great atmosphere and will be a good time, but don't expect to go rushing back for more - maybe just once every couple of months. Stick to the stews or enchiladas when you visit.

My drink was too pretty to drink! We went to celebrate my nephew's graduation. The service was excellent.. Our waitress kept a smile on her face, even though she may have been overwhelmed. The food and drinks were amazing! Great food, drinks and service!

Delicious. Fast, clean and friendly service. Salsa tastes great but it's spicy. Taco we're delicious, fajitas we're yummy and strawberry Margaritas we're really good and strong too.

Drinks were great, slightly overpriced, but mostly worth it. Nothing too special about the food. Standard Mexican/Tex-Mex with nothing that stood out. The waitress was awesome, she helped the experience better. Even though she had a party table of 20ish people, we didn't feel neglected. We never saw the manager make any rounds and the hostess was lacking in knowledge of the restaurant, both the history ND the running efficiency of checking in to being seated.

This place is a staple for San Antonio mexican cuisine. It's got a few dishes that are higher priced than SA's normal Mexican restaurant. However the ambiance, food, and service make it the perfect place to bring clients and other out of town visitors versus the downtown eateries.
I've never had a bad dish when coming here.
I recommend getting the "queso flameado" as an appetizer (for 2-4 people) - it's under the Quesadillas section.

This place has been my personal favorite for Mexican cuisine for nearly my entire life, since I lived in San Antonio as a youngster! I try to eat here whenever I'm in town for a visit. The food doesn't disappoint! The ambiance is so relaxing and fun (although I do miss the McCaws). So much outdoor seating with great plants and fountains! Very good margaritas, too!
