The experience was all around great. Our waitress made everything sound delicious and was genuinely one of the most knowledgeable about food being served that I've ever seen.
The food itself was memorable and enjoyable. Some great flavors and varieties of dishes.
If we're ever in town again, I'd return
La Fonda on Main is an amazing piece of San Antonio history. It’s boasts being the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Antonio opening in 1932. The main reason my wife and I love this place is the atmosphere. It has an old hacienda charm and whether you sit outside on the patio under the huge Live Oak tree or dine inside it truly is a wonderful experience. This place is great for special occasions like an anniversary dinner or Birthday. They can also accommodate large parties in their back room. The cuisine is mostly interior Mexican but they have some Tex Mex selections as well. They waitstaff are all well dressed in their starched black shirts and are very attentive and accommodating. The service is some of the best in town.
They have a bar waiting area up front and the cocktails are excellent. If you are a visiting San Antonio or are a local you can’t go wrong visiting La Fonda. Reservations are recommended as they can get crowded due to their popularity.

Wonderful cool breezy morning on the patio. Food was over the top delicious. Service excellent and environment just about perfect. Not too loud, yet upbeat. Filled up before we left. The thin sliced marinated Ribeye with scrambled eggs in a relleno with sauce was wonderful. My friend's thick fluffy pancakes were a surprise and very tasty. Bacon was perfect. They have captured an environment that is cosy and yet could be a thousand miles south. I plan to go back when it's cool enough to enjoy the natural stacked rock fireplace as well. The peach mimosa was peachy but not too sweet.

Fantastic food! The server was super knowledgeable and accommodating. The drinks were superb. This place is a Mexican restaurant on the next level. Highly recommended.

My sister and I were travelling from London all around Texas. When we arrived to San Antonio, everywhere we looked recommended this restaurant so we had to give it a go. If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars I would. It was authentic, cozy and the food was incredibly delicious. We sat outside on the patio with the lights handing from the tree and it felt like a movie. The staff and incredibly kind, hardworking, friendly and accommodating. It was really the highlight of my trip! Counting the days until we go back.

The food was exceptional, except for the beans, which were dry and hard. The fajitas, both beef and chicken were tender and tasteful. The service could be better, more efficient, friendlier, respectful, and with less attitude.
The waiter questioned number of tortillas and salsa. Really? Just bring what is requested.
The major faux pas is that this establishment does not take American Express "because of the fee." Since my corporate expenses are on American Express that was a total turn off.
There are also strange limits on the number of persons to divide the bill.
Best part of the evening was the cake, but found out that one of our guests bought it at HEB. The cake was delicious and perfect!

Absolutely wonderful experience! You can get dishes here that you most certainly will not be able to order at a local Mexican restaurant with standard "American style" Mexican fare the service was magnificent. The food is extremely flavorful and the ambiance of the patio area is something to definitely be experienced. I have included a picture of all the food we ordered enjoy and I hope to return soon! By the way, ask for Gabby to be your host if she is there on your visit!

Great, friendly service and nice location, however the food was probably the blandest Mexican food I’ve ever eaten, even though it was well presented. I added salt but even that couldn’t fix it. Disappointed because on top of the food not being tasty at all, it was very overpriced. Would definitely not come back here to eat, but I’m just writing this as a warning to Latinos like me who would have expected something super flavorful at a highly rated place like this. I also don’t think it’s unlucky because my boyfriend had the same opinion about his enchiladas (I ordered the blue corn empanadas special).

Fantastic! The restaurant is beautiful. We sat under a huge oak tree decorated with hanging lights. I am generally a meat eater but decided to try something different. I had the sweet potato and spinach enchiladas. They were so good that I wouldn't order anything else when I went again. The service was great and we will definitely go again next time we are down here.

My husband found this place and we have fallen in love! We felt confident the minute we walked in and saw a bunch of locals. The food is fresh, staff friendly, outdoor seating beautiful in comfortable December weather. We literally could eat everything on the menu. It definitely could be one of our favorite spots in all of TX!
