I ordered the 2 items build-your-own box with porchetta and chicken and a fried egg; however, to my disappointment, the pork skin was mostly burnt BLACK. It tasted crispy all right, but the bitterness from the burnt skin ruined the whole flavor, and I don’t think this is what you’re supposed to give to your customer for the price. It’s supposed to be golden brown, and even if it’s hard to avoid over-burning the meat for its crispy texture, it shouldn’t be burnt that much.
I was originally looking forward to this place after looking at the pictures online and reading the reviews, but the food I got today just didn’t meet my expectations at all.
The two stars are for the side picked cucumbers and radish - they tasted nice, and the chicken is also okay.

Came here to try the 3 items combo (Char Siu, pork belly, and chicken) after reading the LA magazine article naming them as having the best Char Siu in L.A. They did live up to their name. I appreciate that they included some pickled cucumbers and steam green vegetables. It was a good meal. Forgot to take some photo before I ate the food.

Not an expansive menu, but there’s meat and also vegan options. We got two rice boxes, which both come with rice, gailan and pickles.
Porchetta crackling (crispy pork belly) is delicious, and I really like the herbed side that came with it on the veggies.
Beef curry stew is just fine. I’m not as big of a fan, it’s a tasty curry stew and the meat isn’t too dry, but it’s nothing mind-blowing.
Would’ve preferred jasmine short grain rice, as I feel long grain is on the dry side.
Parking… DTLA, so it sucks. Either get lucky with street parking or shell out for garage

First time in LA, and this was the first place that a friend and I went to for dinner. Best decision we've made. We both agreed this is something we'd get every week if we had the opportunity.
I ordered the beef red curry, and it comes on a bed of rice with sweet pickled cucumbers and what i can only assume was a sweet pickled radish. The steamed leafy veg was the only flavorless part of the meal, but that was to be expected. Everything else was bold flavors and fantastic tastes.

Small Cantonese restaurant in the Spring Arcade Building. They’re currently open for takeout and dine-in. The tables are two-seaters so it’s probably best to come with another friend or two. Credit cards are accepted. Bathrooms are available for the entire building if you show your receipt to the security guard. Metered street parking is available.
The food is tasty and reasonably priced. The bao box comes with 3 buns. The bread is very soft and has a generous amount of filling. The RBX one was my favorite. We also split the curry beef (it has coconut milk FYI) and the crackling pork. The curry beef was hearty and warming, and the pork was intensely crispy. Both dishes came with rice and veggies. The restaurant is right across Gelateria Uli should you want dessert afterwards. Overall, it’s a tasty place to grab food.

I’m a huge fan of Ricebox! I love the fact that the dishes that they prepare are recipes that were passed down to the owners by their grandparents. Their take on traditional Cantonese dishes are great. My favorite is their crackling pork/porchetta bowl. The porchetta are nicely seasoned and expertly cooked. It has a nice crispy texture on the outside and a savory and succulent meaty interior. You can upgrade your bowl to include fried rice and a fried eggs. A few other items worth noting are their RBX Cheesy Char Siu Bao, pork fried rice and their salt and pepper chili wings. Their RBX chessy char siu bao is a really unique take on the traditional bao. It’s filling and oh so good.

Great takeaway gem in DTLA! Highly, highly recommend the porchetta, you get super juicy pork with perfect crispy skin, which contrasts perfectly with the picked cucumber and radish to cut the fattiness and leave the meal not feeling too heavy. Also, the upgrade to char siu fried rice is worth it for that little extra indulgence! Overall, the price is very reasonable for the spectacular food you get.
They have a special Saturday only roast duck but make sure to get it early because they literally always run out! You can also call ahead and reserve and order in the morning.
Finally, I recommend pairing their meal with a classic lemon tea.
Unfortunately, being in DTLA there’s no easily available parking so you may want to park a little further then walk instead of circling the block 5 times like me.

I was disappointed , the fried rice was excellent. The duck had A LOT bones in it so it wasn’t comforting to eat and constantly pick bones from your mouth. Then there was the flavor , it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t my favorite. The sauce was missing more of the flavors I care for like garlic and ginger etc. the pickled cucumber were really good and the added egg was nice. What wasn’t ideal was the up-sells - I totally get increasing ticket total for helping the bottom line and happy to pay more for anything that isn’t part of the standard , all im saying is tell the customer eggs are extra , fried rice is extra. I’m not a free loader , just come communication goes a long way for customer service in my opinion. Perhaps
Cantonese food just isn’t for me is always a possibility
My loves ginger chicken had a very rubbery consistency, not a pleasant mouth feel. The flavor was good but I think someone over cooked it

Yummy crackling Porchetta and Char Siu rice box. Special family recipe. The porchetta is crispy with chimichuri sauce that compliment the crispy pork. Must try the steam buns. Great and Fast Service from the owners.

This is a review for their soft opening, so the quality of food here can change in the future. Food here are pretty simple, char-siu rice, bao, chicken rice, etc. But what should be simple and tasty dishes are not executed well - everything is over cooked and dry. The char-siu is dry, the porchetta is dry, the rice is hard and dry, even the chimichurri sauce is dry. Couple that with the $12 per dish (on average) price, it's really not worth the hassle. Their bao and fried eggs are good, but that really isn't enough to save them from a 3 star review. Hopefully it'll get better, not recommended right now.
