The food was great and the portions were plenty. However you may want to order take out because there was minimal air flow and it was so hot inside the restaurant that it ruined the overall experience.

Absolutely a wonderful place to enjoy. For the age of the place it's kept up extremely well. The food is fantastic, that being said a bit on the salty side. Very 40s street car Noir.

Amazing food- just get one of everything. Loved the orange chicken and short rib noodles. The soup dumplings also great. And the wonton apple dessert. Went on a Sunday evening and we enjoyed the the showtunes!

Fun ambience, karaoke on Thursdays is really fun! Food leaves a lot to be desired, but frankly food is not the main attraction here.
Just ignore the hipsters who are cocksure they are cooler than you ( they're not ) and you may have a great time.

We came to Hollywood to enjoy the movie capitol. Our first meal out was to the Formosa Cafe! It has a star-studded history as evidenced by the collection of photo portraits lining the upper walls - everybody from the golden era! You can sit in the circular booths, an old railroad dining car or in the spacious bar. The staff is terrific, kind and attentive, and plan to share whatever you order, because the portions are very large. Oh yes, the food is very good. You will enjoy your stay and want to come back. Last tip, make reservations. Enjoy!

The wait staff was wonderful and attentive. However, the two hostesses made us feel unwelcome from the moment the first of our group of 12 arrived. They made it abundantly clear we would not be seated until at least half of our group arrived (which is fair, but rude). When we were finally seated, one made it abundantly clear that there was a 2-hour limit on our seating. I’ve never been anywhere that’s limited my patronage. Three of our party were running late, so the hostess kept rudely coming over to remove the extra table (which we kept putting back). When we paid our bill, our guests lingered a bit at the table, and the hostess came over to tell us that we had to leave immediately. Ours was a group of college friends that had not seen each other in 30 years, and we were obviously excited about catching up. The only reason we went to the Formosa is because it used to be our regular hangout in the late 80s, and we thought it would be a fun reminiscence. Back in the day, the staff was old and cranky. Today, they’re young, snotty and cranky. Nice to know some things about this establishment have not changed. Will have to rethink a return visit.

Great to this place reopen for its 80th Birthday!!! Lots of history here and definitely worth a visit!
Was very busy for a Monday evening so reservations are a must!
Great atmosphere and food was excellent, really enjoyed it (especially the cauliflower).
Service was a little slow to start with however to be fair it was busy.
