I walked by the classic place and impressed with the services, staff and of course the food. I got Roccaperciata white wine, then got Tortellini in Brodo soup and got rigatoni integrale as main dish. All taste good, Anglo & Jeremy and other staff are amazing and friendly. Absolutely will visit this place again and again. ♥️

gene and georgetti is a chicago institution! everything about the restaurant is incredible. the service was top notch. food came out fast but appropriate for the meal. it was coursed perfectly. the atmosphere was classic chicago- we sat next to a couple that had lived in the water tower for the past 30 years… insane. loved the steaks and the chicken parm. deserts were top notch!

An old school steakhouse with parking right across the street. The ambience is like stepping back inside with the glass bottles of water and attire of all the staff. A quiet but lively spot to eat. There’s something for everyone on the menu. If you don’t order course by course then you aren’t ordering right. The tiramisu is an absolute must have.

All of the great reviews here are well deserved, but what puts this place over the top is service. I made a reservation for one via Open Table for 8PM on a Tuesday. I got there on time and made my way into the odd little doors at the corner of Franklin and Illinois Streets. There's a door on both walls at the corner that both open into the bar. It's a little weird and disorienting. There is no immediately obvious hostess stand, but a greeter immediately saw me and I told her my name and reservation. Without even looking at book or computer, she says "yes, right this way" and leads me through a maze of rooms, hallways and stairs until I find my little table. It almost felt like that scene from "Goodfellas". My server, Carlos, greeted me within a minute, presented the wine and cocktail list and I ordered a Negroni which I swear arrived in less than two minutes and it was prepared perfectly. I asked Carlos some questions about portion sizes and he proved to be very accurate. I started with the shrimp cocktail. Four jumbos with lemon and cocktail sauce. Pretty standard stuff, but the house-made sauce did have a bright, refreshing flavor. The shrimp may have been a little tough and overdone, but fresh and flavorful. Next course was the Panzanella Salad. The portion size was just right as a prelude course to the entrée, and the combination of flavors was perfectly balanced and not over-dressed. The notes of celery, onion, fresh cherry tomatoes and basil permeating the chunks of bread made this a salad that I wanted to savor, and I did as I ate every last bit. I probably lingered a little too long on the salad because my entrée arrived before I finished, which is something that usually irks me to no end, but wit only a couple bites left I finished and swapped plates. La Tagliata is a 14 ounce New York Strip cooked to rare/medium-rare perfection in a 1,400 degree F broiler and served with arugula and cherry tomatoes. The menu says EVOO, but there was also a little balsamic vinegar which added a nice tang to the plate and I enjoyed mopping up this dressing with each piece of meat that had a delicate exterior crust. An outstanding plate of food! With no room left in me for dessert, I ordered a cappuccino which made for a nice finish. The whole time I felt very well cared for, never rushed (except maybe a little with the early entrée arrival) and never crowded or smothered. It was an outstanding experience.

Delicious food and very attentive service. We shared the garbage salad, porterhouse steak and small batch spumoni. Everything was delicious. The place was continuously busy, and service didn't suffer. We recommend it!

This place needs to be on your list! First time getting a Tomahawk and it was the best steak I’ve ever had. I’ve been to many notable steakhouses (Bern’s, Peter Lugers, Keens, etc) but this one beats them all. Fantastic presentation, excellent service and refreshing cocktails in a great, homey atmosphere. My new go-to whenever I’m in Chicago.

Iconic. Building from 1874. Atmosphere nostalgic Chicago Steak House. The best hands down shrimp cocktail anywhere. It is just as magnificent now as it was 35 years ago when I first tried it. The garbage salad defies explanation. The steaks are magnificent and anything you order will exceed your expectations.
Service always 5 stars. Melanie was our server today and was phenomenal. When we asked how long she worked there, she shyly admitted today was her first night on the floor. Her perfection led us to believe she had been a tenured associate. Remarkable.
New key lime is not to be missed.

Gene & Georgetti was founded in 1941 by Gene Michelotti and his partner Alfredo Federighi. Located in the heart of River North, Gene & Georgetti is Chicago’s oldest and one of its finest steakhouses. Partners Gene and “Georgetti” worked hand in hand to establish the reputation of excellence that is continued through today.
I went there on food from Hyatt Palace hotel just in a minute to enjoy the great taste of G&G menus.

Great experience! A chic environment with an old world feel. Clean tables and server ware + attentive staff! Ordered the start stuffed zucchini and baked clams- both were tasty, clams were my favorite. Lobster in spicey red sauce was tangy with a bite- so good! The salmon was seared to perfection, accompanied with perfectly seasoned potatoes. Must try spot around river north for a date night!

OMG... First time here and definitely not my last. Came from DC to visit a friend and we picked this place for dinner. Carlos was our waiter and he was awesome. The food was phenomenal and filling. The bill was appropriate and well worth it. Will definitely be coming here again. Thank you for great service and awesome food. 3 hours later and I am still full. ????

Gene & Georgetti is a must visit in Chicago! There is a reason they have been open for over 80 years; so much history here and the food is delicious! They are family owned restaurant with an intimate atmosphere and friendly staff. Juan and Jessica were incredible and made our experience very special! Be sure to ask them about some of the photos and memorabilia around the dining room.
We had a five course meal & were blown away. Highly recommend the Tagliata di Manzo with a side of vesuvio potatoes and broccolini. The steak was cooked to perfection and the crust was exactly the way we like it. The Paglia e Fieno and Garganelli Speck e Spinaci pastas were equally as great, as well as everything else we tried. For dessert, get the Leonardo Firenze cookies with vin santo for dipping!

The wet ages steaks were so good! So were the shrimp cocktail and mashed potatoes, which you think everyone could get right but they don’t. Service was also incredible. Vibe upstairs seemed to be old school upscale supper club? I liked it.
