So so good - hands down the best Omakase I've had in the US. Everything was perfection, the chef was so knowledgeable and kind, and our fellow diners were lovely. Cannot recommend Kyoten highly enough!

Been twice now, both times have been spectacular. Love the variety of fish I got to try each time. Such attention to detail, amazing texture - no other Omakase I’ve tried in the states comes close to be honest.

Kyoten is a project of passion by chef Otto Phan. The sushi on offer is the best that you will come across anywhere in Chicago (and beyond). The restaurant is set in a tranquil and serene space reminiscent of a Tokyo omakase counter. Every bite is meticulously chosen and expertly crafted in front of you by the chef himself, guided by what ocean bounties are in season at that particular moment. Due to the intimate setting, a rapport quickly establishes itself among the guests and the master of the proceedings, contributing to an air of conviviality. Certainly, Kyoten comes at a steep price, but for omakase of this quality, this is expected. Highly recommended.

Amazing evening with the best sushi we have ever had! Chef Otto was engaging and personable. Very intimate dining experience with the highest quality ingredients. Would very highly recommend and would go back without a doubt!

best sushi and/or meal i've had in chicago. that said, value leaves a bit to be desired when compared to similar omakases found in new york. my meal was $440 for 4 courses of otsumami and 10 pieces of nigiri; in comparison, Shion at 69 leonard in nyc (which I consider a top, but not the best, omakase in nyc) has 6 otsumami and 12 nigiri at a slightly lesser price point for perhaps better sourcing and quality with a more refined service and beverage list. I would have also liked the option to order more after the full service. that being said, I enjoyed my meal at Kyoten, but unsure about whether or not I will be back.

It’s scary, it’s scary how good this sushi can be. You will not be able to eat sushi again without comparing it to Master Ottos. I’ve been to Michelin started sushi restaurants but this by far takes the cake for anything you’ll ever have. They just did a recent remodel and it looks absolutely stunning! They even have a top of the line bidet!! But for me I’m just about the food, and this place has exceeded my expectations. Best of the best, not even in Chicago but maybe the whole United States and even beating out Michelin star I tried in Japan.

Easily the best sushi I've ever had, and chef Otto clearly is a master. Also he is very kind and not judgemental. Unfortunately we had a very picky eater with us and he was very polite about it.

We had the pleasure to enjoy the private dining experience last week. Everything was absolute perfection. We’ve tried many Omakase restaurants in different cities and this was better than anything we’ve ever tried. Hard to believe this is in Chicago! Service was great and chatting with the chef was unpretentious, interesting and very fun. We would definitely recommend the wine pairing ($100 per person). The wines and sake were well chosen and complimented the menu very well.
Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. I would always return if I had the chance.
Plus - which restaurants makes you some sushi to go to enjoy for breakfast the next morning? :-)

This is my second time dining here. Chef Phan has taken what was already the best omakase in Chicago and elevated it to one of the best omakase experiences anywhere. So many interesting and unique courses and unexpected flavors ... this is multiple michelin star worthy dining. The new menu is pricey, but your group will have the entire restaurant to itself for the evening, and the value in the ingredients and execution is absolutely there. Can’t recommend highly enough.

A unique experience. Went with family. Fish choices, texture, and freshness was superb. Every bite was savory and delicious. Gracious front server and delightful conversation with the chef. Wine and sake pairing was really good. Will definitely recommend to friends.

I have never had fish this good in my life, and I've had some good fish, flown in from the fresh waters of Alaska and all that. The variety of textures presented here go from velvety to buttery to pudding-like, but they all have amazing flavors all their own. It's a singular experience that I recommend; the price tag is worth it!

Best sushi I have ever had outside of Japan! The chef is highly skilled in his art. The menu changes according to the best fish available and there is a thoughtful selection of sake to pair with the meal. It can be difficult to secure a booking as it only opens 4 weeks in advance.

Each dish seemed to get better as the meal went on. In a city full of mediocre sushi, the experience at Kyoten still far exceeded my expectations. At $220 a person (includes tax and tip) it is expensive but worth the price for a special occasion if you want to experience the best sushi in Chicago.

Enjoyed an epic meal last night! The fish selection was impeccable and each piece presented was packed with flavor. I would highly recommend planning a night here and enjoying a perfectly curated meal.
