I was originally going to Outpost across the street when it was CLOSED! I saw La Mexicana Grill and decided to try. It was super good. Literally authentic Mexican food, asada fries, the chicken burrito bowl absolutely amazing. Deserves a five star.

Edit 8/23/22: I'm removing a couple stars. Like others have said, this place has gone way downhill. There is always something wrong with my order. Something is always missing. This time it was all the fixings for the fajitas and some of the tortillas were stale. It's really a shame because this place was one of the best restaurants period and a go-to for me. But, it seems like the new owners are more intent on running it into the ground than having any quality control and a successful restaurant. Ask yourself how much longer you'd like to be in business because the way you're going, it won't be terribly long before your profits tank.
Soooo yummy. The best fish tacos and burritos and yummy horchata. Great prices. Great for an easy, quick but tasty lunch of dinner.

Stopped by after a Cubs game and we were not disappointed. I recommend their steak tacos, my boyfriend loves the surf n turf burrito. Give them a try.

there was not one piece of steak in my burrito as well as the 4 other add ons that I️ ordered. I️ don’t know if there’s a glitch in their system, but I️ pretty much got a wrap with fries, guac, and barely fajita’d veggies. who would have the audacity to call that a burrito??

This is a solid traditional Mexican carryout restaurant with a handful of tables inside. I've eaten here three times before Cubs games, each time with a friend. All six meals have been good. Tacos, burritos, and quesadillas seem to dominate the menu. Prices are very fair, considering the location. The Alambre burrito was flavorful, but as is too common, there was an overabundance of rice. The al pastor tacos were good, but not memorable.
La Mexicana is good for what it is trying to be. Its food doesn't rise to a level that's notably better than many other such places, so I cannot give five stars, but I'm happy to eat there anytime.

Im honestly taken aback by my last experience here. This was my go to Mexican take out place until recently when I was delivered food that was covered in mold. Truthfully I can't even begin to comprehend how this was even sent to me looking the way it did, clearly covered in green mold. It was such a negative experience that it now makes me question the sanitation and food safety practices of the whole restaurant. What a shame, sadly would not recommend this place to anyone.

lousy service, unprofessional and rude staff.. 30 minutes waiting for my order that were simple tacos and the workers just talking to each other, I will never go back

I picked up a menu just yesterday and my partner and I looked forward to eating here.
When we arrived today, I immediately ordered the 2 Saucy Burritos, $8.99 and a Tortilla soup $6.99 that we had preselected. The "Saucy Burrito " is described as: "includes protein, beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream...)".
We were told our total was $38.67. Wait, WHAT?
A worker came from out of nowhere (manager?) saying how expensive everything was now and proceeded to gather up the paper menus at the side of the register. "Prices changed."
We get that there are financial hardships everywhere now. But this includes for patrons as well- citizens- who are actually trying to support and stimulate the economy and businesses.
Trickery never will never be tolerated.
We totalled the new costs of our 2 Burritos + soup according to their "new" menu on wall. The updated price for Burritos were $11.49 each and decided against the soup. Now, our total was $29.39. ????
The girl at register shrugged her shoulders. We just left.
When I opened the website order form, prices were now a third, different price-$10.99 for Burritos and then while directed to customize which "included protein" , an additional $3 per protein was added!
Sorry, but things are tough EVERYWHERE. Be upfront and honest. Please treat others with respect. That's all.
(We got Burrito Suisas blocks away for 9.99 apiece. ????)

manager is so rude. I asked the man a question about burrito and the manager literally yelled at me do not speak to him he's working and yelled at the poor guy.. the manager just stood there with his hands folded telling the staff what to do.. how about help. I will not support a business that doesn't respect their staff. this place has went down hill since this new place took over. will not be back.

My fiancé and I love this place. We're so happy they took over this spot. It's our favorite go-to in Chicago. We are definitely regulars here, coming a few times each week, and one of the reasons is because everyone is so friendly and generous each time we come in. Portions are great and the La Mexicana Burrito (make it a bowl!) is SO GOOD. This place has such a great neighborhood vibe, we wish them success for many many years to come.
Favs: La Mexicana Burrito, California Burrito, Al Pastor & Steak Tacos, Tilapia Bowl, Shrimp Bowl, and their homemade Pico De Gallo and salsas.
