I love sea food and southern cooking. Who doesn't? If you do, too, you'll love Sam's Southern Eatery. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but man oh man, on the inside it's finger lickin' good eats. Fish, shrimp, hush puppies to die for! A great menu at reasonable prices. If you haven't tried it isn't it time to stop denying yourself great food?

When I ate here last the staff was extremely rude, took us forever to get our food, and we ordered an appetizer to go but didn’t Even get it but was charged for it. We said something about it and was given an attitude by the staff and when we did get it it was very cold and nasty we couldn’t even eat it. We also observed we weren’t the only customers the staff was very rude to. If I could I would give 0 stars

It's an unassuming place but the food is phenomenal. Everything we ordered from the hand made patties to the freshly breaded chicken strips(!!) tasted amazing. So glad we passed through and decided to try. 'Kids' portions are big enough to feed an adult but they've got platter options for a group.

We came across this place while camping at the Elk City State Park. It is worth the 10 minute drive into town to eat. Great food and great service! Had a lot of food that was so good and more than we could eat.

Independence Kansas today at lunch time on my way home. Saw this place on the way in to town at hit it on the way out. This place is a great find and worth the stop if between KC from Tulsa. Only a couple of miles off from the 169.
The place looked very low key and I was stopping in for a late lunch at 2pm so it was not busy when I arrived with only one other table with customers. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Ordered the 3 piece fried fish and 3 piece fried oysters with red beans and rice and green beans as sides. Service was fast
Food arrive and it was piping hit straight out of the dryer. The portion size was huge. 3 really big pieces of catfish and oysters. The breading was southern style with cornmeal. Breaking open the crust steam and juices came gushing out of the oysters. Delicious. The star today however was the catfish. Perfectly cooked and moist. Seasoning was spot on with the right amount of breading. Their tartar sauce was the perfect complement with the meal and the hush puppies were not shabby either. Sometimes some restaurants neglect their sides but not Sam's. They were taking care of business today. The green beans were pretty good but the red beans and rice was amazing. Get this this as a side if ordering a meal....highly recommended.
Sadly I was so stuffed I couldn't eat any more and had to pass on ordering the fried pies the waitress recommended. Will have to order a smaller meal next time to leave room for the pie.

I cannot stress how good the fish, hush puppies, Red beans and rice were... it was like the best of Midwest with a bit of New Orleans flair. Don't want fried food you will not be disappointed with the sautéd fish, so much flavor!
Get some Buffalo sauce on the side and dip your fried fish, chicken and or shrimp. It's not just plain Buffalo sauce neither is the tarter sauce!
