Velma is terrible at customer service . I placed an order and it was incomplete. They proceeded to say, we will check the cameras to see what we did right... hung up phone on me .
Called again . No answer. Finally get someone on the line . She hangs up again .
Terrible. We loved this place. We order basically weekly . Never buying from here again . They are rude .

That Samuel dude is not wrong. People tend to over look small spots but this place… this place has heart and culture. You can taste it yourself, not many places put the love they do into food as much as el Rey del sur. Thank you.

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their service to our harsh judgement. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun and simple to write and read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of trash is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something. That being the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends and supporters. This afternoon, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal. To say that both the meal and its makers have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist can come from anywhere It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at El Rey del Sur, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in the slums of Jersey City. I will be returning to El Rey del Sur soon, hungry for more.

Order from union city multiple times on Uber eats. They are one of my favs. Best pupusas , tacos, flautas and tamales. Food always comes packaged perfectly. Comes hot on time and fresh. 10/10 recommend.

I always get the pupusas revueltas and the baleada with chicken... so freaking good. And they always put a smiley face on my bag when I order through Uber Eats, it’s the little things. Definitely recommend !

Delicious, fresh, flavorful food served in a friendly family run restaurant. Ordered Pupusas Revuelta (corn tortilla with pork and cheese), Pupusa Mixta (with bean, pork, and cheese) , Baleada Completa (flour tortilla stuffed with beans, cheese, cream, egg, avocado, and roast meat), and Sopa Res. Two of us shared the food and walked away full and happy. The horchata is also the best I’ve had. Will return to try other items for sure!
